Adam, I'm actually with you there -- They're operating legally, it seems, so I'm not saying they should be shut down or anything. I just believe that particular practice is horrible. Despicable is a great description!

I think this is a terrific question! There are multiple software applications that link into WP. Should MarsEdit be subject to the same "Bill of Rights" as they're trying to push on Thesis?

In the same vein, would Twitterific or Tweetie be considered derivative works of Twitter?

I do not make that plugin... It went un-updated for a while and wouldn't work with Thesis, so I made this thing. If you want a plugin, it is a decent option.

You're right... if you're designing for a Fortune 500 company that gets thousands of comments an hour, then migrating might not be for you. However, 99% of users don't fall in that category. You said, it might be good for personal blogs and those looking to make money... well, don't most blogs fall into those categories?

As for socializing content being out of control? Little true value? I hate to burst your bubble, but any type of content system is based on the very theory that socializing is important. They go hand-in-hand, they are attached to one another. Invalid argument.

Those little buttons like facebook, twitter, and yahoo are completely optional. I chose to use them and have seen the benefits, but others choose to eliminate them.

Disqus isn't for everyone, just as Wordpress isn't for everyone. There are sites that should use alternate options (whether that be default commenting, intensedebate, or one of a hundred others).

First, I didn't call my readers clueless... in fact, quite the opposite. I simply called people who are NOT my readers clueless as to who I am. Which, really, is basic common sense. Also, I think it is quite apparent that what I write tends to be laced in sarcasm. It's what I do.

Secondly, saying Thesis is just something that "follows the suggested html standards" is completely incorrect, on multiple fronts. Thesis' layout is so low on its list of features, that I rarely even mention it. Very few use the default layout (it was built with user-customization in mind). But the real strength is in SEO. It really has no equal.

As for content-producing (what is that, really) users not being aware of it, well... they aren't doing their job. I'm not saying it is necessary for them to use, but I wouldn't trust a wordpress content-producer that didn't at least know about it.

Donna -- First, I use the Similar Posts plugin by Rob Marsh... Then (the easiest way) is to go in the plugin settings and add some css for background, padding, and border. That's it!

If they're showing in the sidebar, you probably have a widget (Appearance > Widget) that's doing that. Just remove it and you'll be all set.
