I'm curious about the 1.5" interocular. Why so small? That is 38mm and average adult is 63mm as far as I can find out. Any ideas what advantage the narrower gap => less parallax gives?

Currently 15th in boxofficemojo.com adjusted for inflation "American domestic" list. What is worth noting is that Titanic and Avatar are the top two entries in the adjusted list *for a generation*. The last 25 years, nothing beats them. That seems quite an achievement in terms of popularity!

Reading old articles and threads on Avatars boxoffice potential is a good way to have a laugh or two these days. Unfortunately I don't have my own bad guess posted for all to see but when this article first was posted I recall I expected $300m domestic, $500m foreign => $800m worldwide. Mind you, like many others I exected a higher opening weekend ($100m). Oh how wrong most of us were :-)

47" for a whole pubfull? I hope they have more than one screen per pub or I can't imagine the 3d working that well for those at the back!

Or maybe they'll just choose a *really* small pub - there are plenty of cosy ones in Edinburgh to choose from :-)

I saw G-Force in 3d. Cardboard cutout city. Unless the "conversion" process has drastically improved (if it has I'll apologise and admit to being wrong) I'm afraid I'm not that excited by this news. Genuine S3D for live features please... If "Pirahna 3D" can be bothered to use the full S3D kit for filming surely other features can as well!

Avatar is some beast. I was at the cinema last Sat afternoon taking the kids to Alvin (I know, I know) and grinned from ear to ear hearing the tannoy in the cinema say "Avatar 3d is now fully booked". And that is week 6! I never believed it would do *this* well at the boxoffice.

Marketsaw has certainly been the best place for avatar information and enthusiasm. Well done Jim and Michael!

I've seen it in RealD and also 2D (non-digital old-style projector) - have to say the 2d was still great in my opinion. 3d a much better experience overall but as I've seen commented elsewhere I found some of the faster action scenes easier to follow in 2d. Need higher framerate ;-)

I had wondered if 3d would help make the CGI look "real and solid" but in my opinion most of Avatar looked just as real to me in 2d as it did in 3d.

I still want to see it in IMAX 3d but as you say, GSC is still a little full! Acht well, hopefully they'll still be showing it in a few months time....

Looking forward to Avatar 2 and Avatar itself on blu-ray. I'd be surprised if the commercial decision was made to have the first blu-ray disk including an extended edition. Surely the bean-counters will insist this is a separate later release?

Mind you, remember JC saying "I want to do Avatar 2 but it'll only be announced when we rake in enough money from Avatar, you'll know how much that is when we announce it" or similar. No announcement yet so they can't have made enough money yet.

OK, I'm joking on that last one, I think they probably just can't count it quick enough :-)

The GSC is my closest IMAX and I've only seen Avatar in RealD and 2d "fleapitovision" so far so looks like I'll have to get my ticket booked!

Hmmm, I don't recall being "distracted by the pixels" watching Avatar in the cimena at 2k projection? I was more distracted by the framerate. I'll admit I haven't seen a 4k projected image and I'm sure I'll love it when I see it but personally I hope they spend there bitrate and bytes on frame rate before bothering with 4k.

*Really* looking forward to hearing how you find the two formats compare. I found IMAX 3D unpleasantly "stuttery" at the Avatar preview showing (also at GSC) compared to RealD films I've seen recently. Please post your views tomorrow Scotland3d!

Me, I'm seeing it this Saturday with the family at a RealD showing. If reports on IMAX 3D by comparison are good enough that might tempt me to do that as well :-)
