Fields. Not a podcast, no but I feel like I'm the only person watching this in the era of true crime obsession!

Re: I Need an Internet Hug

I guess you have to decide what you want out of your blog. Do you want blog fame and (relative) riches? Then, yeah, I think you do have to pick a niche and go hardcore with daily posting, linking, etc. I often wonder, about the people who really do it, whether they actually live a real life or just document a reasonable, but desirable facsimile of one? It's hard work. You're create and you could do it, but it's like another job really.

If you just want to document your life and share parts of it with your family and friends - and people who find it interesting enough to keep in their reader - then you're doing JUST FINE.

One thing about the redesign: how many people read you on site vs on a reader? I read everything via Google Reader, so redesigning means nothing to me (it also makes me way less likely to comment on anything). YMMV but maybe that's energy you're spending on the design because that's your forte but if you want to attract readers it would be better spent on the content?

I recently did a major purge of my feeds: I'm down to less than 100 now and I got rid of a lot of personal bloggy or twee designy things because they just made me FEEL BADLY about myself. Which is not their fault, and my life is pretty great, but it was just unnecessary angst.

Re: Maybe Because It's French?

Well, you guys are having a long engagement so maybe once the actual wedding planning starts up full force "fiance" will see more apropos?

Re: Please Don't Report Me to \"Hoarders\"

I do tend to buy multiples of t-shirts from Target or Old Navy if they're on sale because who can't use 5 black v-neck t-shirts that are just $5 each? And it's not like they last all that long.

But I am a "just in case" buyer. I think it's a fat thing. If I see something I like, or that I think might fill a potential gap in my wardrobe (based mostly on an imaginary life I lead where I can't wear jeans and a t-shirt 360 days in a year and still be overdressed) I have to buy it because god knows that if/when I ever actually DO need it, I'll never find the right one. Which is why I have dresses for cocktail parties that none of my friends ever throw or suits for work conferences I never attend or heels for clubs that I would only go out to if you drugged me AND paid me.

I am also a persistent "upgrader": I started walking to work last week and have now purchased no less than 4 new pairs of shoes because I have convinced myself that none of the >40 pairs I already have are actually good for doing that. FOUR PAIRS.

Oh, wait.... this isn't a blog about my compulsive shopping?!

Re: The Greatest Gift

I am delighted, touched and, honestly, relieved that you like my thank you methodology so much. It's fun to do since I so rarely cook anything for myself. But if I keep vacationing in the motherland I'm going to run out of menu options soon!

Re: Infinite

I got a head start on my reading earlier this week (because I'm paranoid I won't be able to keep up and because I was avoiding my accounting homework) and found it so much more engaging and fun than I remembered from my previous (3) attempts. As a compromise, I told myself I could mark, but not yet look up, any words I didn't know the meaning of until it officially started. I fully expect to at least break my own personal best record of 120 pages. I might even get to the vaunted page 223!

Re: Green Thought

Have you ever heard that advice about dealing with a stalker where you have to just ignore them because if you finally break down and pick up the 35th phone call they'll just realize it takes 35 for you to break and will set that as the new benchmark? Yeah, cats are stalkers.

I learned this the hard way but here's what's worked for me: do not under any circumstances feed him in the morning. Anything. At all. Yeah, yeah, you shouldn't free feed or you should feed him twice a day. Whatever. Put food out at 11pm. Hell, I'd argue you should put it out at 11pm and whenever he wakes you up you take it away. So he'll learn that food only exists while you're asleep (but maybe that second part would be too cruel). And keep it cold where you sleep. You'll need to wear extra clothes to bed and put on extra blankets but cats hate it cold, so if the bedroom is cold they'll want to do nothing except leave it or cuddle up to stay warm.

And you have to do it for 36 nights in a row because their will is in-frickin-credible.

Re: Cat Content = Minimal

Please tell me that one of the (early morning) nicknames is Miles To Go Before I Sleep?!

Re: To Ugg or Not to Ugg, That is the Question

True confessions: I really hate Uggs, mostly on principle and the fact that they always seem to be worn either with a pair of sweatpants with JUICY on the ass or with crotch-revealing mini-skirts both my Stanford sorostitutes. However, faced with coming to Tbay in the winter I had a dilemma. I solved it by buying fake Uggs at Target for $30. I've been really happy with them so far (I mean, you know me - clearly I am not wading through lots of deep snow here) in keeping my feet dry and warm. So if you have doubts about the real ones (it just seemed like a lot of money for something I opposed in general and that was so fucking ugly) the faux ones are probably still there and will be more than enough for your purposes.
