Peece4all - Why, exactly, isn't it the parent's responsibility? Whenever I take my kids to a drop off location (school or extra-curricular) I walk them in. It's really not that hard.

Not only is it difficult for working parents to participate, but also for the disabled, the elderly and the ill. Why can't we move into the 21st century around here?????

Again - my point is that this parent essentially wasted $130,000 on private high school tuition. He probably could have gotten into UVM after attending a continuation high school, or passing the GED. Most certainly after graduating from Andover High.

Of course it is a decent school - but not one that justifies spending $130,000 on private high school. If I'm throwing that kind of money at my kid's education, I expect my kid to get into on of the top schools in the nation. Not a mediocre college.

It must really suck to pay for a private high school only to have your kid end up going to a mediocre (at best) university. Probably could have sent him to public school and saved about $130,000. Oops.

Bobbyb, using your logic, I shouldn't have to pay for any cancer treatment for smokers (I'm 'opposed to' smoking) or type 2 diabetes treatment for the overweight (I'm 'opposed to' obesity).

Our taxes cover tons of things we don't necessarily agree with - whether our beliefs are faith-based or not.

Just now seeing this editorial. If I understand correctly, the Harvard Crimson was advocating that we should allow free-market economics to determine the legality (not to mention morality) of dog racing. Brilliant! We should also legalize heroin and gambling, and let the laws of supply and demand determine who among our society will survive and advance.

I already get nervous when I pass or am passed by multiple motorcycles on the road. Just the idea of encountering a bunch of sleep-deprived motorcycle drivers participating in a cross country 'race' makes me shudder.....

Fair point, but....

Why do smokers think the world is their ash tray? I think if they stopped tossing butts onto the ground (from cars, at the beach, in the park, - or wherever they finish their cigarette) people wouldn't be as bothered with outdoor smoking.

Snake - I don't really want to debate whether or not there are a lot of non documented people in the US, or MA, or Lawrence. What I want to point out is that it is pretty narrow minded to make an assumption about a person simply based on their surname. That's all.

Texting, reading, sleeping, studying a map - whatever it was she clearly shouldn't have taken her eyes off the road for as long as she did. She is very lucky she didn't hurt anybody. Her privilege to drive should definitely be taken away for a period of time.
