Which of the photos get used later would be up to an editor or at least subject to editing.

That being said, something seems off. Not one of the photographers did their job? Not even one photo of her? Had she been announced someone would have taken a photo, thinking, "Who the heck?"

This seems to be a case of someone being where perhaps they weren't supposed to or expected to be.

Re: Wrenn and Six [MH1]

One could argue any card over $20 is overpriced.

Re: Mox Opal [SOM]

Come on $11 low :-) I just need 1.

Re: Stoneforge Mystic [WWK]

Saw the uptick in price. However, from my experience reading your works over these years, listening to your talks, etc., I think you could present a useful perspective and focus, especially with the practical idea of the DIY projects and recipes.

And I definitely support more kids works. We've got six boys, and those who can read so far are voracious readers (and the others love to listen or look at the pictures), and can tell you there is a great need for works focusing on instilling jubilee and justice.

Re: Book Giveaway – 5 copies of SLOW CHURCH

I did both options for #1, and shared on Twitter: https://twitter.com/martyro...

Thanks!

Re: Why Christians Might Want to Abstain From Reciting “The Pledge of Allegiance”

Amen. I made the same point a few years back, though you have articulated far better than I did. My main thrust isn't merely on the allegiance, but as you alluded to, words have meaning. If you don't mean what you say, then why say it? We teach our kids that words are important. What we say and how we say it are important. And the Pledge is not something to take lightly. We've talked about it with our kids for years, and it even came up again last week. They prompted it. And I found they are quite wise and understand the significance of what you say and what it means to make a pledge to a flag made by man and a country/government made by man.

Re: Why I Love Once Upon A Time

Totally agree. Regina (who was on Lost) does pick up a lot of the acting slack from Emma. Emma acts the same way she did on House, which may have worked then but doesn't translate as well to OUAT. A lot of great one liners at the perfect time work very well.

Re: Why I Love Once Upon A Time

Amen and Amen. We are fans of the show as well, and your points are spot on from our perspective. I think Hook's story line is a wonderful example of the road to redemption. For the longest time we saw him as a guy portrayed as "a bad guy," and "evil villain," but one who wasn't given a chance. He masks his pains and struggles and desire to help and be seen as a good guy once again behind the persona and life of the rugged pirate because it's what has helped him survive.

Like with Lost, the show takes intentional steps to make sure we see that no one character is good or bad.

Good show. Not the best. Needs some help in the writing here and there and the acting of some could be better, but good overall. I'm not laughing at you, bro.

Re: There is No Pro-Abortion

Yes, yes, yes. When we remove "abortion" from a strictly political context, we can move forward. Together. I was just talking with my wife about this same topic the other day, and our language. We are absolutely against abortions, but the way we go about helping abortions come to an end is, as you say, through love. Let's take care of not only the women in our communities, but support each other (men and women) so we can also get rid violent acts toward women that could lead to situations of abortions, e.g. rape.

Laws change with the wind. Love doesn't.

Nicely stated there, Ryan.

Re: Pacifism as Privilege

Your wife's doing some important and difficult work. And I wouldn't distant it from "pacifist concerns." I think doing so is in some way informs the reasons behind Jordan's original post. It was a very good post.

Re: Pacifism as Privilege

I have a concern that I'm having trouble articulating. So I'll just toss out the jumbled words and hopefully it'll make semi-sense.

I gather there is an underlying assumption that I don't agree with. The post separates the poor out as one group, marginalized and distinct from other groups, particularly those in power.

But, any body of Christians embracing pacifism (pacifism coming from pacifere, found in the Vulgate translation of the Beatitudes where Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers") will necessarily practice within the context of an alternative reality, or alternative community. In that alternative community, the classes are gone. The separation does not exist. And I'm not being pie in the sky; there are plenty of communities doing this now. Within that context, there are scholars and even folks with money who are living out community with those who are poor and outcast, but they don't operate with those categories. They are disciples of Jesus, and together they share all things including knowledge.

When you say, "[T]he strategic choice of violence vs. nonviolence is not for the western oppressor–us–to decide: the poor ultimately are the best theologians for their own liberation," I totally agree. But that does not mean the poor will be right.

Here's some strong words from Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise: "They say I gotta learn, but nobody's here to teach me / If they can't understand it, how can they reach me / I guess they can't, I guess they won't / I guess they front, that's why I know my life is out of luck, fool."

Yes, many Christian pacifists screw this up. If they think pacifism has only to do with whether or not we pick up a gun and shoot somebody, they're wrong. Yes, global capitalism is evil and we are hypocrites if we continue to operate in that context. But that doesn't mean we must leave this specific, separate group, "the poor," to decide for themselves how to act and react. I can't talk about what "the poor" will do because I am "the poor." It's not "them," but "us." And my input on how to act and react is just as valid as any other's.

Pacifism based on the example of Jesus and the embrace of discipleship by Jesus's disciples will always work.

Dang. That's convoluted. When I can get some more clarity in my words, I'll clarify.

Re: Never Alone #MennoNerdsOnLoss

Testing the comments.
