It's already possible to festoon your TV with set-top boxes (Apple TV, Boxee being examples) that integrate some kind of web experience. In the pipeline is YouView, specifically designed to integrate Freeview and online TV experiences, in the process making it unnecessary to have to deal with the multiplicity of computer-based clients: iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player, etc.

If you went mad (and had enough HDMI slots on your TV) you could connect all of these things at the same time. However, in most households this isn't going to work: my wife already complains that she doesn't know how to use the Freeview hard-disk recorder that's plugged into the TV. It looks likely to me that YouView will end up being shipped inside UK TVs (as Freeview tuners are today), and the opportunity for set-top boxes (like Google TV) is diminishing.

Re: London Riots: I hope the phone companies are disabling all their stock

Talking of technology, perhaps the detectives could enlist the help of eBay? I'm sure some of the stolen mobiles will be going that way?

Re: Rumour: Symbian Foundation to be wound up?
