It is
so important that we speak to people face to face about Independence."

Better Together bungled the announcement of the event on its Facebook
page. This initially said there would be a "National Campaign Day" next
Friday, then changed it to next Saturday, then changed it again to both
Saturday and Sunday, then finally changed its name to the "National
Campaign Weekend".

One Tory volunteer said the omens were not good: "This has come out
of the blue. It seems to be a rush job. I've been given no details from
them or my local [Conservative] association.

"It looks as if it's been cobbled together on the back of the
Olympics. Better Together might also be getting nervous at all the
stalls being run by Yes Scotland round the country."

Other would-be volunteers have left messages on Better Together's Facebook page, asking if anything is happening in their area.

Launched in June, Better Together is spearheaded by Labour and backed by the Tories and LibDems."

And of course being backed by the Tories means being funded by the Tories.

Re: Scottish Independence: Poll reveals 55% of Scots want to retain the Union as support for independence falls | eGov monitor | The Information Daily

Darling will be miffed as the Yes vote has grown by 3% since his eve of the Yes campaign poll. Scotland's current population is 5.25 million of which roughly 10% is English born. Oddly enough SNP membership among the English born members is currently sitting at around 14% .

Wouldn't you agree that 16,000 people responding in Scotland is a far more significant ratio than the 3,000 who responded from the 62.2 million living in the United Kingdom.

Please point out any referendum in the world where 70-75% was the threshold for passing an Independence referendum.

51% is universally regarded as a majority, that'll suffice quite nicely in 2014.

Re: http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/politics/2012/june/Exclusive-Camerons-offer-to-Scotland?Index=0

What percentage would you prefer Maureen?

As Fraser should have informed you, there's been a rather large Independence consultation by the Scottish Government which ended last month. 16,000 folk responded compared to the 3,000 who responded to the UK 'Separation' consultation, of which some 750 responded via a template Labour party website.

What we in Scotland don't want is a repeat of the 1979 referendum where the Cook -Cunningham 40% rule subverted democracy and delayed Devolution for another 18 years.

Re: http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/politics/2012/june/Exclusive-Camerons-offer-to-Scotland?Index=0

Given our snow fall isn't as regular as it once was I doubt we'll have a need for any Slædepatruljen, but saying that maybe forces specialising in dreich weather operations could be a welcome complement to larger units.

Re: http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/politics/2012/june/Exclusive-Camerons-offer-to-Scotland?Index=0

The only defence cut I'm looking forward to is the removal of Trident from the Clyde.

Re: http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/politics/2012/june/Exclusive-Camerons-offer-to-Scotland?Index=0

Err no, We'd have a defence force appropriate to our population, much like Denmark, Sweden, Norway etcetera, all of whom spend considerably less than is proportionately spent by Westminster using Scottish taxes, currently.
