The injection was totally free and totally available to all veterans at the sinister, evil, morally repugnant, Barack-Obama-the crypto-Marxist-who-was-really-born-in-Kenya, socialist-communist style, liberal-Democrat (actually Abraham Lincoln, a GOP prez, started the V.A. system), hyphenated-compound-modifier, government-run, taxpayer-funded, health-care system known as "the Veterans Administration." No side effects for me, accept a still-very-sore arm. I have had pneumonia one time (which is what --ultimately-- kills most H1N1 flu victims), so the second, free vaccination I received from said evil government health care system made my hairy, left, ass cheek a little sore (John, as a hunky Greek boy, do you have a nice hairy ass, too?). These protective inoculations were a preventive measures I was pleased and grateful to receive (again, from my socialist style, government-funded, government-run, and government-regulated health care plan at the Veterans Administration). BTW, my other prescriptions are 100% totally free (from my government-funded, government-run, and government-regulated health care plan at the Veterans Administration). And there is a guarantee that my government-funded, government-run, and government-regulated health care plan at the Veterans Administration will never take more than 30 minutes waiting time to fill a prescription (usually running 15 minutes for a scrip fill). This V.A prescription system beats the time, cost, and efficiency of for-profit, Presidential Candidate Lou Dobbs, GOP, tea-bagger style health care systems (like CVS, Walgreens, WalMart, Rite Aid, Eckerd's, etc.). Yes, I got my shots. Now John, tell us about your butt!

Peace, Mark

P.S. John, asthma is really awful and the attacks are terrifying -- I hope you continue to be well and happy!

P.S.S. Thank God , Abe Lincoln (pretty much the sole Republican supporter), and the Democrats, for the "anti-American," anti-free market, pinko commie, health care available at the Veterans Administration for a lowly, gay, leftist, U.S. Army veteran like me.

Re: Lou Dobbs considering presidential bid in 2012

President Dobbs? I think tobacco should be taxed even more (to help pay for the health problems it causes). If any other product (a food or medicine) had had so may successful lawsuits for wrongful death against it like tobacco has, it would have been banned a long time ago. If you want to smoke, do it on your own property. Don't do it around your kids or pets. Japan also has public bans in some areas. I hate being in a cafe our even walking down a sidewalk and getting toxic tobacco smoke blown on me. I also hate it when smokers loiter around entry doors to public buildings.
Go outside, wherever you are, and see how long it takes you to find discarded cigarette butts (many smokers behave like pigs). But California, which hasn't executed many offenders in recent years, pays around $137 million annually to maintain their current death penalty system.

Also, if accused Ft. Hood shooter, Major Hasan, is found to have been sane during his alleged crimes, is convicted, and executed, the gov't risks turning him into some kind of "martyr." Better to incarcerate people, isolate them, and let the public forget about them. The idea of the death penalty as a deterrent is also a myth:
http://tiny.cc/4hhXg

Our judicial system is flawed. And success in defense frequently has more to do with the wealth (and race) of the defendant and the defendant's access to a skilled legal team. And geography has a skewed impact on justice: compare sentences for murder in Wisconsin versus sentences handed out in Harris County, TX.

And what about the horror and injustice of wrongful conviction. Here is a list of people, formerly on death row, now exonerated:
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo...

Finally, here are two excellent and well-researched articles which consider the "humane" aspects of lethal injection:

http://moritzlaw.osu.edu/la...

http://standdown.typepad.co...

Joe, thanks for having the moral courage to promote abolition in your post.

Re: Lieberman declares Ft Hood shooting an Islamic terrorist act with no conclusive proof

Mr. Lieberman is a member of Congress, not a member of the judiciary and not a law-enforcement officer. He is an Independent who sometimes caucuses with Democrats (he is NOT a Democrat). The events at Ft. Hood need to be thoroughly investigated by law enforcement. The accused shooter will (most likely) be tried in a military court under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. His defense will, no doubt, want Major Hasan evaluated by a forensic psychiatrist. Hasan's affect and behavior prior to the shootings (as seen in the security footage at the convenience store before the shootings) was very odd (which makes me suspect some psychiatric factors -- but, of course, I am not a doctor). The military is still gathering evidence and late Sunday asked for other witnesses to come forward to speak with Army CID. With an investigation still in progress and investigators still calling for people to come forward, no moral, wise, or honest person who values the concept of justice should be appointing themselves as police investigators, mental health experts, judges, and jury (and making unfounded claims on Fox news about conspiracies and terrorism). Mr. Hasan should be investigated and tried by people sworn and properly trained to do those jobs. Liberman isn't a cop and at this point I wouldn't trust him to run a school bus stop cross walk. Hasan should not be tried via a crank Senator on a TV media outlet for the GOP. I can't say with certainty on why Mr. Lieberman is making these comments. Based on his expressed desire to sabotage health care reform, I do have to wonder if his comments about Major Hasan are an effort to pander to the right wing (in order to protect his committee positions in the U.S. Senate which could be jeopardized by his attacks on Democratic-led health care reform). No one, including law enforcement, has all of the facts of the Ft. Hood case. All U.S. elected officials are sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution. No matter how much we abhor a criminal act (like the events at Ft. Hood) we must support due process of law for all defendants, as provided for by the U.S. Constitution. Mr. Lieberman seems to be a male version of CNN's Nancy Grace, engaging in widespread contamination of jury pools and actually aiding Major Hasan's ground for legal appeals by making unfounded and baseless comments on Fox. If Hasan was sane during the attacks, Lieberman is actually helping his defense case with material for appeals. If Hasan is a terrorist, one could say that Lieberman, by shooting his mouth off, is providing aid to a terrorist by his outrageous pre-trial public commentary. Justice and the American people would best be served if Joe Lieberman would shut the fuck up. I think Lieberman has violated his oath of office. People in CT need to start a recall campaign and rid the Senate of this vile, hypocritical, racist bigot. I am weary of entire groups of people (in this case, Muslims) being held accountable for the actions of one person (who could have been psychotic or suffering from a brain tumor). Because of people like Lieberman I am sick and tired of my law-abiding Muslim friends being afraid to go out of their homes to get groceries. When Timothy McVeigh murdered 168 people and wounded many others, Senator Lieberman wasn't holding all Christian (McVeigh was a Catholic, GOP, NRA member), Republican, NRA members accountable for McVeigh's actions. When American-born Jew, Dr. Baruch Goldstein gunned down 29 Muslim men and boys at prayer in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron in 1994, Lieberman wasn't blaming all Jews for Goldstein's act of terrorism. It is unAmerican, unjust, and a violation of the principles of our criminal justice system for Lieberman to incite right-wingers with his hate speech against Muslims. Please go to the CAIR website and read their statement about Ft. Hood. www.cair.com. People of CT, organize a recall of Lieberman! Joe, shut your hole!

Re: Fort Hood shooter alive, more updates

In 1966 a gunman named Charles Whitman killed 14 and wounded 32 others from a university observation tower in Austin, Texas. He was killed by police and a autopsy revealed he had a brain tumor (a large gioblastoma) which could have impacted his behavior and impulse control. Other than the bullet wounds he received, we don't know anything about the medical and psychiatric condition of the accused shooter at Ft. Hood -- Dr. Nidal Malik Hasan. A white man from New York state , a Christian, and a registered Republican named Timothy McVeigh murdered 168 people (including small children) when he blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City in 1995. McVeigh was not found to be mentally or physically ill. I am a gay man and a Christian (more of a progressive Episcopalian), and as awful as McVeigh's actions were I don't blame all Christians or even all Republicans for McVeigh's terrorism. There are fanatics in all political and religious groups. There are also people (like Charles Whitman) who have severe neurological problems or psychosis which are mitigating factors. I am a U.S. Army veteran and I feel immense solidarity with the Ft. Hood community. Once I entered the gates of an Army base I always felt safe and "at home." I feel very sad for the people of Ft. Hood. As an American, I certainly want justice and I am certain that Dr. Hasan will receive thorough medical and psychiatric evaluations prior to his trial. We should not hold all Muslims accountable for this (any more than we blame all Republicans and Christians for the actions of Timothy McVeigh). Let's adopt a wait and see attitude and let the doctors and investigators do their work before we jump to conclusions. My husband was killed by a drunk driver on 9/13 so I haven't been posting much here lately. But I felt this was an important conversation for me to join. Please, let's not start attacking entire groups of people based on the behavior of one individual. That seems unfair and un-American.

Re: If this video is real… wow

Может быть, водитель автобуса был пьян?

Re: If this video is real… wow

Actually, the bus is a metaphor for the out-of-control Bush administration.
