I'm so glad I found Brandon. He answered my email right away and fixed the forum within 24 hours of my initial query. I'm so happy to have found him and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Vbulletin expert.

Re: Burning Down the House: True Story

All of which is exactly why people like you should be leading publishing companies instead of execs who could just as well be selling doughnuts or widgets. People who really care about books and writing (like you Guy) should rightfully be the stewards of the industry.

Re: Motivational Cliches Aren’t Business Models

Well, actually ebook publishing isn't complicated at all. For a writer, it can be as simple as uploading a Word file to Smashwords or ScribD or Kindle or making a simple PDF you host on your own site. It's only difficult for large-scale publishers because it's not built into their current business models. Sorry Guy, but it needed to be said.

Re: 6Qs: Richard Eoin Nash, Social Publisher

I'm curious to watch this whole experiment play out. I think one of the problems Richard is going to face is finding talented editors who are also effective community managers because that's a real balancing act. I know many other communities that have experimented with similar models, Harper's Authonomy for example, haven't effectively managed their communities and that creates a lot of resentment. And of course, the stakes will even be higher for Cursor since its a paid membership model. The problem is, most editors are used to working behind the scenes and aren't accustomed to putting themselves out there and managing communities. Most editors are used to working in a more linear fashion. But I do wish Richard all the best and hope he achieves his vision.

Re: On Branding, Tribes, and Seth Godin Goes Wild

Seth Godin is a marketer, not a saint. One of his books is titled All Marketers Are Liars after all. Just because Seth has lots of good ideas and shares them prolifically doesn't mean we should blindly follow suit.

Re: HOW TO: Launch Your Own Indie Journalism Site

Hi Annie,
Thanks for the tip on ourtown, I'm going to check it out. I hope that Laura will chime in and let us know her plans.

Re: Top 10 Blogs for Writers – The 2009/2010 Winners

Thanks so much Michael. This is certainly an honor to be recognized by peers in the writing blogosphere. You've put together a stellar list! Thanks for your hard work.

Re: Nominate Your Favorite Writing Blog: 4th Annual Top Top 10 Blogs for Writers Contest

I'd like to second (third, fourth?) the nomination for Susan Johnston's Urban Muse blog http://www.urbanmusewriter....

Susan is a friendly, generous voice in the online writing community and she offers consistent good advice for freelance writers.

Re: Four Publishing Lessons Learned in the Garden

Wow, what a lovely post. I know I can count on you to read between the lines of what's really going on in the volatile publishing world. Keep the posts coming.

Re: Is Social Publishing simply Vanity Publishing 2.0?

What I'd like more explanation on is the book itself. Are novels going to be collaborative efforts? Because I believe that fiction is an art that springs from one person's consciousness. A collectively written novel may be an interesting group writing project, but it's not something I want to buy or read. So how exactly will the communities be playing part?

Re: Book Deal!

Wonderful news! It's become so relentlessly pessimistic and just sucks the juice out of any sort of creative impulse. I'm sure many new and even established writers read the depressing coverage and think, why bother?

If you really want to write and be read, there's never been a time in history when it was easier to get your work out there. I think it's really important to focus on positive messages and not get sucked into fatalistic viewpoints.

Keep up the great work! Your sons are adorable. :)

Re: Dan Conaway, Literary Agent (part 2)

I adored this interview, especially the bit about Dan and the crush he had on his wife-to-be.
