Wouldn’t we expect something really important to cost a lot more than something trivial?"

Ummm... Food is not so expensive but key to survival.

You know, as well I as I do, that this is not a strong argument (though both . Relative value to your own well-being is not an argument defending the high costs of health care. Some people value health care more than others, I'm sure many value their Plasma screens over their X-rays.

I don't know what the solution is and I'm not arguing one side or the other here.

What I can see is that the health care industry left to itself and the regulation of 50 state governments has done nothing to mitigate the rising costs of health insurance. Furthermore, the argument: "Why not have the Government use its power to make the costs of everything else go down too, also without a sacrifice in quality[?]" is weak too. What about National Defense? The returns to scale provided by National Defense is probably equal to the approximate cost of state-run health care, i.e. in the trillions.

Government provided health care does not need to be for everyone, and it shouldn't be. Is it ridiculous to desire an amendment to the system that might bring a standard of care to all citizens? I read just yesterday that each uninsured person costs insured families $1100 per year.

I don't know if the government can do it cheaper. Something has to be done however. Half-measures and platitudes (rainbows and cupcakes too!) are worthless.

Again, I don't know what the solution is but complaining about proposals without offering one of your own is like offering a problem without a solution (read: unhelpful).

Perhaps we can start with tort reform?

Re: how to make an angry bartender.

When someone asks you, "what do you guys have?" while tending bar on a busy night, just give them a tall glass of ice water and take the next customer's order.

I only ever did it once, but it felt so good.

Re: The Trunk

Nothing irks me like this sort of government abuse of power. There they were in Divorce Court when the judge finally says to Mickey, "look man, you can't end a marriage because your wife is crazy." Mickey responded tersely, "I didn't say she's crazy, I said she's fucking Goofy!"

ba-dum-bump!

Re: poortaste

Hmm, I'm going to Eliot Lipp tonight and just heard about Pretty Lights for the first time today.
