Hala, attack of the Kapuso. Hahaha. Sana man lang, kahit pangit ang mga GMA7 movies, meron din sana silang parang Cinema One para pambayad-atraso. Pero papanoorin ko ang movie kahit na sobrang hindi nagustuhan ni Phil. The likes of My Valentine Girls, hindi naman siguro ginawa para ma-appreciate ng critics (some won't even bother watching it) kundi para lang kumita. So sa mga Kapuso, i-rally n'yo na lang ang movie sa mga posibleng maka-appreciate ng movie para kumita ito. In short, kalma lang kayo. :D

The best I can say about the film is that it's better than Portes' other recent movies. But please, let's not equate Butch Francisco as one of the "artistic and critical institutions". He might be the mascot of Urian but definitely he's not Urian. I remember him liking "Pitik-Bulag" as well.

Ang duda ko, gumagawa si G. Portes ng pelikula na ang mindset ay pang-film festival abroad.

I think Bong Ramos' "Halik sa Tubig" is being screened at Robinsons Galleria. Maybe we can include also the indie film(s) being screened there. There are a couple of indies that I missed to catch during Cinemalaya and I'm expecting for a rerun at the Galleria. Thanks.

Regarding the thinner crowd, I guess it has something to do with the ticket price (P150). You can have a film at Glorietta for P10 more.

Hahaha. Ang saya naman, andaming comments. Well, I'm a Kapamilya but I don't like the movie either. OK lang namang mag-stick sa mold na drama/melodrama pero sana merong ipinakitang bago or anything unpredictable. Unang frame pa lang, alam na nating ginawa ang materyal para kina Gabby at KC.

Sickle has a good point on critics and the capability of killing the industry. Parang watchdogs kasi ang mga critics na hindi self-serving, 'yung willing magbigay ng input sa kung sinumang filmmaker para mag-improve at gumawa pa ng mas makabuluhang pelikula.

In the same manner na parang consumer guide sila minsan para r'un sa mga taong walang extrang pera na pampanood ng sine. Too bad, walang masyadong variety ng boses ang mga kritiko natin ngayon.

Based sa mga pelikulang Pinoy na matataas ng rating dito, karamihan ay indie. At karamihan dito, kahit ano pang pilit ipanood sa mga tao, isusuka at isusuka pa rin nila ito at manonood at manonood pa rin sila ng anything Star Cinematic. Kaya kapag nakakita sila ng rating na 1.5, pwedeng hindi na nila panoorin 'yung movie kahit pa posibleng magustuhan pa rin nila ito.

One of the better Pinoy films so far this year! Music is satisfying. Direction is satisfying. Editing is satisfying. Message is obviously sent across amidst the "spectacle". A labor of love. Watch it, watch it! Really, really good.

As of presstime, my two other better Pinoy films are "Red Shoe" and "Here Comes the Bride". Don't miss "Emir" (especially if you're a Filipino). Definitely the best thing with PGMA's name on the credits.

Mukhang ang kailangang i-discuss eh 'yung pagiging "1st Filipino full-length movie musical". If "Sinta" is like that, then the production has to be corrected. Mahina ang documentation natin sa ganyan kaya the more na maging helpful tayo na mag-share ng info. As opposed syempre sa magtaray. I remember "Kakabakaba Ka Ba?" to be a musical as well pero hindi buong movie nagkakantahan.

Agree rin ako na bago i-critique ang isang movie, kailangan muna itong mapanood nang buo. Kung trailer lang ang basis, aba eh andami na sigurong pangit. Mamaya ko pa ito mapapanood kaya hindi muna ako masyadong magko-comment.

On Ms. Farr, I guess, bigyan namin s'ya ng pagkakataon. Iba rin kasi ang magiging impression kung sikat ang kinuha. Mababahiran na 'yung vision na makapagkuwento kesa kumita. Kung gustong kumita ng NCCA o CCP, dapat rom-com na lang ang ginawa nila. Para sa akin, hindi sapat na tingnan ang isang pelikula sa isang artista lamang.

By the way, it's "Caregiver" not "Caretaker".

I think Lito Casaje's "Dolores" is currently being shown at Robinsons Galleria. If I'm not mistaken, it was an entry in last year's Cinemanila. Lito Casaje, by the way, is a stage director during the 90's but of course, this doesn't guarantee if the film is good or not. Any buzz/review on that one? Thanks.

I agree with most of the comments. After watching the film, it made me wait for the director's next film. Sana 'yung hindi naman ganito ka-light. Something more challenging. Good start 'to para sa akin.

Sorry if this seems like a consumer guide but I rushed to the IMAX Theater in MOA just to catch this one. I think it has something to do with the five-star rating.

*SPOILER ALERT!*

What made it different to other 3D movies is perhaps the last few scenes. There's this vital sequence involving Hiccup and the night fury inside the boy's room. That alone pretty much summarizes the theme on friendship. 3D-wise, just notice the strand of the characters' hair and you'll know that it's well crafted.

It's one of the reviews that I wish to contest the rating as opposed to the content but yes, to each his own.

I enjoyed the film. I can say that it's above average compared to other Pinoy films, mainstream or not. I have to agree though with the double-frame, it's a turn-off. But I like most of the scenes, its silence and the lingering shots. Acting-wise, it's a great cast from the support down to the two leads.

The backstories about the parents also make up for a good point. Maybe it's telling something about kids being a byproduct of a relationship.

I enjoyed the film as well. And I agree that it's not perfect. For instance, the first sequence with Liza Lorena and Marvin Agustin is messy. Tessie Tomas mentions in her dressing room "...multo ng asawa mo sa film center" whereas in fact she is supposed to be in the film center (as the editing suggests). Marvin is good when he doesn't say a word but I don't like him making "pakilig" in some scenes. Liza Lorena's breakdown scene is too much and the confrontation scene with the two leads, close to being a cause of walk-out on my part. In general, the film needs more maturity direction-wise.

But if I'm going to rate it, I'll give it a 3 or a 3.5. The experience is fresh and I would like to recommend this to those who still watch Pinoy films in the cinemas. The twist about Marvin's father is good. And the fact that the "main" story (Marvin and Nikki's story) is introduced in the latter part without noticing that you're already in it (thanks to an overwhelming first part that probably lacks discipline), that's also good. Plus the way Jose Rizal is "lambasted" in the end, I like that one too.

With regard to viewing experience, I would always go for "The Red Shoes" (2.5 stars) over "You Changed My Life" (3.5 stars).

I like the last paragraph. It's true. When I went to Quiapo last time, vendors refer gay-themed films as indie films. If we can only have thought-provoking and substantial gay-themed movies, that would be the day. Or we can at least lessen the pretention.
