Having observed military dictator President Zia ul Haq of Pakistan and his intelligence agency ISI skillfully maneuver Russia into the Afghanistan quagmire I can only appreciate how skillfully Putin walks the razor's edge of involvement in Syria.

A bit closer to what happened, methinks, than that 'some mosque lost their charitable status'. The Saudis fund thousands of mosques so losing one would just be the cost of doing business, which they never interfere with. Freeland was virtue signalling at a wimmin's conference too, bear in mind. Saudis just thought to make an example of Canada (a minor trading partner) since we tweep at them, annoyingly.

If we're going to reward 'cinematic brilliance' then Leni Riefenstahl deserved an award too, and if the Academy then moved to remove her membership would WSWS mount a similar defense for her?

Polanski raped a child, and it was an offense against society, not just Geimer. Granted, the Academy's late action is selectively applied, and appalls for that reason.
