The client source is open. lp:ubuntuone-client lp:ubuntuone-control-panel and lp:desktopcouch + all the others. All client code from u1 is public.

Yes! The idea is the following, I'll be providing a C++, C and maybe Python libs while the Ubuntu SDK team will wrap the C++ with a QML plug-in so that you can easily use it within you application.

I think people are completely ignoring the fact that WE were not trying to improve or change the UI what so ever.

The reason is that we want to tackle problems one at a time, first one, get the app working which includes more than the UI. We had to get inter-process communication working without Dbus, we need to get the file system notifications and ensure that there were no encoding issues in the paths.

Are we going to improve the UI? well I don't know but all of it is done using qss so you can play around with it and make it nicer. I'm sure that most people prefer a working software with a facade that can be improve than something nicer that does not work.

It uses Qt I would be surprised if you cannot run it on KUbuntu without too much work. What problems do you have?

PS: We will at some point look how to add Dolphin, Finder and Windows Explorer integration. Our priority was getting it to work everywhere.

Even if you don't come, shout to the code monkeys I'm sure than more than one will help in any possible way, even if it is only to show you their belly to proof you are not as fat as you could be hehe ;)

Agg... we should make a public relase about this. Look the numbers of Kubuntu users that use Ubuntu One are smaller than those that use Ubuntu + Windows. The idea is to provide the bigger amount of users the best experience using our resources the best way possible.

That being said, the current Windows UI is Qt and would required very little work to port to KDE. At the moment we have lots of work to do and therefore we do not have the time, nevertheless we are very happy to help people port the small missing bits to Kubuntu.

The Windows UI is in Qt, so porting to KDE is really easy since you only have to do the integration with dolphin (which we do not even have in Windows yet)

Folder do sync as soon as a change is made but you have to be careful, on windows you can have a lock file by an application and therefore Ubuntu One will not be able to sync it until you release the lock.

How have you tested the app? Some of our tests include doing a bzr branch in a directory which does generate a lot of files and data gets synced.

Yes it does sync those folder. What you have to do is to go to the control panel and add the folder you want to sync from the computer to the cloud.

The new version also support shares. Take a look around the control panel since both of those two features are indeed there (sorry, I just worked on the sync engine and I don't know much about the UI ;-) )

If you cannot easy find them, do file a bug :D

By design Ubuntu One will be installed under your %USERPROFILE% This mean that if you change your default location of the %USERPROFILE% outside the SDD hard drive you will be able to sync the data from there.

If you think about it, allowing user to sync from different volumes is a very hard thing to do. If I have 2 volumes in one system and a single volume in the other, how do I ensure that the different folder are synced correctly. Where do I put those directories that are from a volume that does not exist?

The config allows you to change the default root location of the Ubuntu One folder, but we have not extensively tested this feature.
