I had my left tube removed due to ectopic pregnancy in April and the doctors told me it would have ZERO impact on my future fertility.

It's not because there are no agents that publishers are able to keep the prices of books down-- it's because of the Loi Lang.

And it's incorrect that there are no agents-- there are a handful. They don't have the same hold over the literary market as they do in the US or the UK, but they're there, and more and more writers are following the leads of Frédéric Beigbeder and Marc Lévy et al and hiring agents to represent them.

On that note, I think it's odd that nearly every time the Independent runs a piece on the French literary world there's some mention of how the French don't use literary agents.

yes. which leads to one of two situations: agonizing over a blog post to make every word "unmisunderstandable," or writing it too fast to care and just posting the damn thing, only to find you've misspelled, misquoted, and misreasoned (supporting the allegation that blogs are sloppy).

if you're really unfortunate you end up with both, in that order.
