A disappointingly cynical and snide article - factually inaccurate, too. The slide is NOT made of plastic. I don't see the Smithsonian whining about the amount of public money being spent on the building of the V&A Museum space that it will be sharing on the Olympic Park... Rather selective cynicism, perhaps?

It's hardly fair to blame it all on the council when the people running it never made their mind up what the place was - a bear bar, a go-go club, cabaret or simply a downmarket version of 79CXR (as if such a thing was possible). Given its reputation for crap door staff and less than attentive bar staff, I'm undershocked that it got into trouble. To make a successful bar takes more than a couple of gimmicks and a late licence catering to people who've already drunk their fill.

The issue I have with this is that he thinks that because everybody talks about the "gay community", an actual community exists. It doesn't and never has. What people really mean when they say "gay community" is a collection of stereotypes laid out like some sort of Netflix menu, that you can pick and choose from. You've got the mincing nancy twickses, the fawning drag groupies, the drugged-up muscle marys, the morbidly obese bearded bears, the narcissistic fitness freaks and everything in between. But what he seems to be missing is that there are quite a significant number of gay people who do not fit these moulds - who refuse to fit them. These are the guys that know there is no such thing as a gay community and who are happy - usually very happy - to exist outside that artificial world. So when he says that he doesn't want to be gay any more, he's showing signs of no longer needing those plastic pretend worlds. This is very definitely A Good Thing! When I went through my "mad gay years" a decade or so ago, I loved it. All the clubs, bars, saunas and the other hedonistic excesses. But they're all trivial mirages. Something to go through, but grow out of. A lot of the gay guys I know these days have made that journey as well. They're a lot more fun because of it too.

I have an iPad3 - the last generation to have any significant upgrade from an earlier model. I have no plans to change it until it dies, I break it or until Apple wakes up, stops farting around, and gives us a decent 16x9 model with a 4K screen. Enough of the tinkering!

Her belief and those of other nutjobs like her in their Sky Fairy friend who lives in the clouds disqualifies her from any credibility when it comes to discussions about science.

This sort of retrospective wisdom is cheap and very self-serving. The time for these so-called "experts" to have seeked publicity for their opinions would have been before vast areas of the country were submerged. Doing it now just makes it look like an extended "oops".
