My Great Grandmother was sitting on the beach with my Great Aunt Jean watching her two boys in the water when trouble hit. Robert and John got to far out, my Great Grandpa Sam went to save them and got swept under himself. Luckily, a couple of other beachgoers swam out and got the boys. My Great grandpa Sam died that day. My Great Grandma (mom's grandma) was pregnant with my Great Aunt Mary at the time. They're all gone now Grandpa, Uncle John, Aunt Jean. But Little Mary is still with us. I sent this article to her. She's in her 70's or 80's by now. She has never met her Dad. She was very moved by the article. I only wish that I could talk to guy who wrote it.

Re: Does the Name Sam Spear Ring a Bell?

Samuel Spear was my great-grandfather. His older son Robert Fredrick Spear was my grandfather (the one that he saved) John Spear was my great-uncle (the younger son) I sent this to my great Aunt who is the only one still living of the four of them. She very much enjoyed it. I also sent it to my Mom, my two aunts and my uncle (Sam's grandchildren) they loved it, in fact, my grandmother has the original plaque! Thank you so much for this!
