And yes, let's connect on twitter or elsewhere. I'd love to be a guest.

Re: [THE UPLOAD] Look Who’s Blabbing - Life - EBONY

@Tayo Rockson thanks for the compliment. It's been a wonder to see what folks are doing on Blab.im. It really has the potential to become the next great social channel if the proper resources are put into it to make it work for people in an intuitive and rewarding way. I'm curious to see what it will become once brands find that it's a place to be. Definitely looking forward to following your happenings and figuring out ways we can help one another.

Re: [THE UPLOAD] Look Who’s Blabbing - Life - EBONY

@Cheval John thanks for making blab.im a great experience. For instance, they went to college but didn't complete their undergraduate degrees. I not only got an undergraduate, but also a graduate .

They are two years apart, and I would say they had both a closeness and rivalry. But since they are 5 and 7 years older than I am, I would say they were more like a second set of parents for me. They were supportive in many ways that I would say lead to my being somewhat successful in life.

I know my own experience is subjective and doesn't prove a point, but this article has me viewing things differently, even the ways I'm dealing with my own kids.

Re: Podcast: The Necessity Of Unnecessary Creating

I knew I'd been feeling unfulfilled lately just teaching and consulting and couldn't quite name it. While it seems we've been talking social media forever now, in reality it's still just early days. I always opt for the test & refine approach. But a lot of digital tools and social network sites nowadays, offer you direct access to what your customers want -- businesses just have to be bold, as you suggest and trust the gut. There's always time to tweak. I always say as long as you're not going off brand, it shouldn't hurt to try.

I'm sure we'll be talking like this still for at least another 5 years. So many brands are really afraid of the water cooler that the Web has become.

Re: What Happened To Knowing More About A Person By The Books And Vinyl On Their Shelves?

I just remembered back in the day, when I was dating, I could always size a person up by their books and albums. I could somehow figure out if we'd be anyways compatible. At least it gave me some entry into what their interests were. I guess today Facebook could be the alternative to that, but I feel today people can more easily fake it til they make it.

I still keep print around, but I am becoming increasingly all digital. I also miss album and CD cover art. The smell of a new CD the smell of a new book. Being able to read liner notes or look through a books acknowledgments.

With the teen's books though, we have donated some and might sell some too. Funny, I try to get her to go digital with books and music and she still wants print copies and CDs. Funny times these.

Re: Lynne d Johnson || Relaunching My Website. And that's the point, I think, in the end. Not being afraid to fail because each failure leads to success.

And like you, I have hella reasons why a FT gig with all of its comforts makes sense. I think I'm just jaded at times, because I have been laid off a few times. I'd take a FT gig in a hearbeat, especially one that enabled me to be more of an intrapreneur. Have you seen this David Armano video? http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: How A Lack Of Focus Can Be Attributed To Fear

And I'm hustling believe me. The focus isn't on which medium you're using but on the community you're trying to reach. So it's not about shiny new tools but what the people you want to reach want from you or expect from you. And to that end, marketing needs to get better at understanding customers and building communities. Am I still wrong?

Re: No, Your Company Doesn’t Need a Chief Digital Officer

I'd have to agree Jeremy, it should be about people and their behaviors, as well as their likes and interests. Today I was just talking about why Taco Bell's Doritos Tacos have been so successful within social media, it is because the brand decided to go narrow and focus on a core audience -- young males -- and speak to them in their language and make them included in the story through the marketing.

I was also talking with some other folks this past weekend, who showed me their startup ecommerce platform that enables any retailer to bring the platform to their site with a snippet of code so that the user can bring their friends into the shopping experience with the. I asked them to be mindful not to focus on conversions as they think about the usability of the app, but on the engagement and peer-to-peer interaction. If they focus on that in their UI, then sales will come. The guarantee a 5X conversion by the way, and while the sales guy was pitching me on the conversions, the Founder agreed with me.

Give people experiences they can remember, because relationships with a brand is about experience and what beter way for me to have an experience with your brand than to be included. And that doesn't matter if it's digital, social, mobile, it matters that it's a strategy built solidly on knowing who the brand is speaking with.
