It must be nice for Mr. Miller to simply say something never happened and get the Board of Selectmen to go along. If Mr. Miller is so ready pretend he did not obligatedthe town to a dog, then what will he "pretend" he did not do when a VERY serious town matter arises? How far can we trust such a man? I wonder what he is truly capable of when his back is against the wall and he is caught doing something he should not have done--like commit to a police cannine without approval and sent (oh, yes, and pay the gas charges) to pick up a dog in Ohio.

I do not trust you Mr. Miller and hame on the other selectmen who went along with him. Ask the tough questions now.

Re: Miller Responds to Officer in Essex Police Dog Dispute

I am indignant over Mr. Miller's sudden back pedaling. Earlier, he said they would entertain the officer's claim to being reimbursed and "would do whatever to make this right." What happened Mr. Miller, too much pressure and you can't handle it? Now, you are being Mr. Macho and throwing the problem at Bevilaqcua's feet. I might have believed your latest statements of how he acted alone, but if that were the case, why did you pay for his as and expenses to pick up the dog?

I am even more disgusted by your behavior than before. I would have more respect for you if you just owned up to the fact that you jumped the gun because you wanted a K9 program--even though the other selectmen did not. You, once again, wanted to have your way--thought you got it, and are now trying to squirm your way out.

Re: Essex Selectmen Clash Over Police Dog

I must say that this is, yet, another example of Miller and his administration doing whatever e pleases. First, why would Essex even need a K-9 program? This is just an additional expense during a time of financial hardship. Second, Miller knows the rules. The Board of Selectmen did not approve the program--let alone the retreivement of an actual dog!! Third, Miller placed Bevilacqua in a poor situation sending him 12 hours to fetch a dog and leaving the dog to be cared for by Bevilacqua for 8 months. If Miller wanted this poor dog so badly, why is Miller not tending to him/her?

My point is simple. The First Selectman does as he pleases without regard to the rules of true needs of Essex. Does he listen? Does he care? Is e taking into consideration the real needs of Essex, or doing what he feels is best?
