I don't have a life to waste doing it. Two years to prototype something that's three months worth of code, because of all the indecision.

One of the folks I hired said, "You kind of piss off a lot of people here, but you're also the only one capable of making a decision."

He's now my co-founder :)

Re: Brown-Bag Lunches at Redfin

Hook me up wit' 'dat, yo ^_^

Re: Facebook, Zynga, and buyer-supplier hold up

Hostage capitalism. If you're a true "webapp with mobile version", then you can only code for the least common denominator handset.

Maybe some future framework/ HTML5.5 will address this. Although I'm not sure how -- I'm not a front-end engineer :)

Re: SQL Databases Are An Overapplied Solution (And What To Use Instead)

I can't believe I didn't see this article until now! You totally hit on the points I raise in my blog. Databases were built to solve problems of 40 years ago. Whether your have small, medium, or "big" data, the classic RDBMS is a pain to use, and a time sink. People spend more time building infrastructure than a business

Drawn to Scale (http://wwwdrawntoscalehq.com) was founded to provide an effortless, scalable alternative to the classic RDBMS, and build a processing and search ecosystem around it, to boot. We kinda call ourselves the "Heroku of Data". ;)

Re: Do Entrepreneurs Fall In Love With a Problem or Solution?

Have you read Steven Gary Blank's "4 Steps to the Epiphany"? It goes over a very detailed process to help you interview customers and make sure you're building the right thing for the right problem. It's pretty cool :)

Re: I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND MEN

Ew, Tarja. Why do only the emo kids get shirts that actually are trim?

Most metalchicks aren't that attractive, except for the fat that they're metal.

Oops, I meant fact.

Re: TOP 5 METAL DRUMMERS

Although "Pickles" was pretty damn awesome when I saw him live. ^_^

Re: TOP 5 METAL DRUMMERS

I call shenanigans. (Yes, it's an outdated meme, but that makes it more win).

Niko McBrain from Maiden is obviously an awesome progenitor -- I saw his solo 'band', and he really brings an A-game. Bobby Jazombek (he did a stint with Halford) does very innovative drumming for the 'True Metal' genre -- listen to the song 'Crucible'/'Park Manor

My favorite metal drummer is Mike Terranna from RAGE -- the best prog/power band you've never listened to. 'Soundchaser" and "Speak of the Dead".

Re: LET'S GET LITERAL

You get props for mentioning 3IB. I think many of their songs could be about love ... like "Revenge Is a Vulture!"

Proposing at a metal should would only be awesome if it was Maiden. And you could do it in front of Eddie.

Re: Hadoop 101 by Chris Wensel

This is a pretty good intro to the Hadoop world!
