To be fair, some times of the day in sunny California make it absolutely necessary to make every effort to be seen. Couple weeks ago, I was going on my evening jog...it was about 6:00PM and I was running east. A driver turned, nearly right into me doing about 20 off a 50 mph road. Scared the hell out of me, and yelled at him and told him rudely to pay attention. Actually felt kind of bad, because he was an old man who obviously couldn't see well.

Anyway, flash forward about two weeks. I'm on the same road, same time of day. My windshield of my infrequently driven car was admittedly a little bit dirty. For a time of about 3 seconds, the sun peeked through a gap in the trees and I could see nothing more than glare. I was scared as hell that if someone jumped out in front of me, and I slowed from 40 to 20 probably to the great annoyance of everyone behind me.

Anyway, sometimes active participation in the traffic system...basically "defensive walking" is necessary. For example, I generally don't cross in front of a car unless I make direct eye contact with the driver in question.

Honestly -- my only complaint was the traffic. I should have just hung out at work for an hour and I would have had a very enjoyable afternoon and evening.

Frankly, I don't think this is a good idea. I understand that y'all want to avoid trolls, but I think most readers do so on their own within the existing framework -- it's called a scroll bar.

In the meantime, this risks alienating those that have reasonable points to make about important issues but are hesitant to do so publicly for fear of judgement by those they know in-real-life at work, at church, at home, etc.

As for this little gem:

So what is the "Flag" button for? I have been reading and commenting on disqus comment systems for years now and I have seen many, many comments flagged and successfully taken down. The system works as it is.

You know what I'd like to know? How is the UT planning to use marketing data on it's users provided as part of this link with facebook? I would put money on that being the reason for the UT choosing the facebook commenting system. Takers?

Question: does anyone think that our downtown really needs help? It's bustling on weekday nights and crowded on weekend nights. In terms of economic development...it's already economically developed, so...what's the point?

San Diego is not Kansas City -- we have enough draws for business and tourism here in San Diego without a new stadium.

Seriously, no one is not going to do business in San Diego because of the Charger's...

Friars Road is a really fast road -- the segment between Qualcomm Stadium and Hazard Center is basically a freeway.

Yeah, good point. The picture makes it look worse than it is.

Given San Diego's overwhelmingly favorable weather (ie, not much wind) and KSAN's simple-to-navigate taxiways and lack of as many wide body movements as other airports, it's not surprising to me that it's safety record is so admirable.

You can train any dog to be insane. Pit bulls can be sweet hearts just like Beagles can be killers. It's just that people that raise Pit Bulls to be killers don't care to do so with Beagles.
