While I did not support President-elect Obama nor did I vote for him, as an American I wish him the best and hope he does a good job. He is our president now, he certainly earned it, and the American electorate spoke decisively. I will likely continue to oppose all of his policies, but I accept this is what the majority of the American people want now. There is no doubt about this based on last night's results.

I also hope we can finally take racism, as a default scapegoat, off the national stage - I'm tired of hearing about it. Sure, there will always be regional prejudice, but we should not be quick to associate everything that happens with racism, even if it's not there. At the end of the day, we have shown that black Americans can achieve the same as white Americans - now, even, the highest office in the nation. It's time to judge individuals based on their hard work/achievement (or lack thereof), not automatically excuse disgraceful behavior and the like just because it's socially acceptable to believe certain people's skin color puts them at an implicit disadvantage - this is simply not true anymore (and IMHO has not been for quite some time).

Congratulations to Mr. Obama and all those who voted for him, and let's hope he lives up to his leadership potential.
