In the article, I indicate that people SHOULD NOT try this in fact. Furthermore, I indicate the circumstances that lead me to chose to take the 2 drugs in close proximity.

"I was a little disappointed to see that the first instance I've come across of a tryptamine/modafinil cross-over did not involve a true instance of combined usage (or any real relative data) and thus did not adequately highlight the dangers involved."

~ Yes, there is no data. As I do point out in the article, there is no research. These drug combos are not adequately studied, and trip reports are always anecdotal.

"Rather, it should be highlighted as a particularly bad idea."

~ I do highlight this as a bad idea, hence the warnings in the article. But again, there will be others who will be Googling this info, and attempt to try it anyways, as I did, even in the absence of info. This is why I published this trip report.

"a majority of text whimsically suggesting minimal interaction and projecting success of something not even attempted."

~ You have missed my point. The intention of this article was never to prove that you can combine these drugs successfully, and that you ought to.

"when you say 'the following Sunday' for your MAOI/DMT concoction, do you mean a 2 or 9 day wait since taking small amounts of modafinil?"

~ It was a 2 day interval

"but you must realise that either of these options are playing it relatively safe and offer very marginal insight to true contraindications."

~Yes, I am completely aware of this, which is why I indicated amounts and interval times. It is marginal insight, but until we have research and data, marginal insight is better than no insight.

Re: Modafinil & Ayahuasca - Are There Contraindications? - EntheoNation

@BeReal Wow, what hostility! Not sure what you mean by "pretend"... you speak as if I am attempting to deliberately misinform people.

Safety is a deep concern of mine, and this article is published as a "trip report", with the POV that it is much better to have information out on the subject, rather than no information at all... and I have no doubt that question around this particular drug combination has & does come up for people.

So setting aside your personal emotional triggering & judgements around this information and the way it was presented, I'd like to ask you, in the spirit of making this article more valuable and informative to:

1) Share your personal story - you "witnessed first-hand". What did you witness exactly? What happened and how did it play out?

2) What dosages of modafinil and ayahuasca were involved?

3) Post the links to the information on the contraindications between modafinil and typtamines so we can all learn more about this combination

Re:

This covers your food, transportation to and from the village (10 hours by boat), the infrastructure they need to build to house you, toilets for all the visitors (squat toilets in the jungle have to get dug out year after year), and it is the one main revenue source for the entire village, without which there would be more hunger and illness. I think it's reasonable for the amout of work that goes into hosting all the visitors.

Re:

There's no way for FUNAI to know if you are going back country as a guest of the tribes, because it's simply a small group of people travelling by boat to a village. You'll be waiting around, your host will be sorting out supplies and boats, then off you go.

It may be that FUNAI slapped on a fee to go to the Yawanawa Festival in the recent years because it's the indigenous festival that gets the most visitors in Acre. What a drag...government always wants its cut. I didn't pay that fee when I went in 2013.

Re: The Modern Shamanic Guide to Taking Rapé - the Sacred Medicinal Snuff of the Amazon | EntheoNation

@Steven Child Awesome! But as the person who conducted that interview, I don't think the hawking statement is accurate.

"The real issue here is get rich quick type marketing gimmicks being applied to ayahuasca" - sure, then point out the ones you see specifically applied to promote AH.

I think it's awesome that Reset asked you to write this article. I met a fellow marketer at a big personal development conference who had a really powerful aya experience that he wanted to find a center in Peru and help them with their online marketing. I strongly discouraged it for the following reasons:
[+] Shamans or brujo - sometimes hard to tell. One person's guru might be someone else's shamanic sexual predator.
[+] This medicine is really, truly not for everyone. So there is a level of personal responsibility you take on for leading someone to a particular shaman or center. If someone has a bad experience or a psychotic break there's a level of responsibility you assume.
[+] The impact to the local community. An influx of rich Western aya tourists showing up to a small indigenous community with the shaman and his family becoming wealthy from it, exacerbating social tension.
...so so forth.
And then you never know if someone will die. It doesn't happen often, but it does. Would you want that responsibility?

Re: A Closer Look At That “First Legal Ayahuasca Church In America” Story You’ve Seen Hyped In The Media

@ocean Firstly, I want to commend you writing this well-researched article about the controversy around legal ayahuasca in the United States. This is probably the best article I've read about this topic so far. I've been following this topic quite closely as a long time ayahuasca drinker AND the fact that I am also podcast host of the interview you linked to with Trinity de Guzman about "hawking outsourcing tips". I should point out that nothing was "hawked" on that episode. He gave away free hiring templates that people could use if they wanted to hire someone from Upwork. There were no paid offers made. He was not selling an outsourcing solution (or anything actually) on the show.

Outsourcing - the topic of the episode - is a common business practice that provides valuable, at will employment to people in other parts of the world. Small businesses who can't afford local talent outsource, and it provides work for college educated talent, stay at home moms, and other professionals in countries where getting any kind of employment at is extremely difficult, especially in countries that lack the social mobility we have in Western economies. When a small company or solopreneur does this, it doesn't have the same impact as when a large company does this, and entire departments are let go, for call centers in India. While many people look it this practice in a negative light, they don't seem to understand that for solopreneurs, nobody is fired and replaced by a cheaper workforce elsewhere, and for the offshore contractors, it is "at will employment". Ultimately its a business owners choice as to how they intend to structure and run their business, as well as who they choose to hire.

All the points you raise around the commercialization of ayahuasca are certainly of great concern. I've been working with this plant medicine since 2004, and spent months adding up to years in the Brazilian, Ecuadorian, and Peruvian jungles working with different curanderos and as a guest of the tribes in restricted indigenous territories in Brazil. In the Amazon, among the Indians, it takes years, decades of preparation before you even are qualified to serve ayahuasca. Rigorous preparations. Dieting. Solitary retreat in the jungle. I have my personal opinions about people charging $150 - $250 a ceremony and serving medicine in the US who clearly don't have that training. At the same time, those facilitators open the doors for people who will never be able to go to the Amazon (the heat, the bugs, the language, the time, the expense, the culture) to experience the medicine and the healing. The indigenous elders and shamans may have issues with gringos doing this kind of thing. On the flip side, I recently spoke to the founder of a visionary organization that believed these facilitators deserved to charge for their time, like therapists are.

Charging for the medicine aside, the claims of legality are a whole different issue altogether.

I'm looking forward to addressing them on my upcoming interview with Trinity this week. Gayle Highpine, the author of the article on Bia Labate's blog, is someone who I spent nearly 2 weeks with in Ecuador in 2007, with in the family compound of a Kichwa shaman who is an 8th generation ayahuasquero. The training Casimiro had to go through to be the shaman that his is, I can tell you, there are very few people alive anymore who have undergone the level of training he has.

BTW, I'm also an Internet marketer by profession. But I've been drinking aya much longer, and aya actually "directed" me to this profession. After spending a decade working in nonprofits on environmental conservation, Tibetan cultural preservation and indigenous rights, I took a sabbatical in 2004, travelled in the Kaxinawá Indigenous Territory of Upper Jordão, and lived in Ceu do Mapía for 2 months. That was the first of many long visits to the Brazilian Amazon. During that time, I kept getting the message (from the forest I guess) that I needed to master Internet technologies and leverage these technologies to share information about the forest, the tribes, the medicines. So here I am.

EntheoNation, a podcast featuring visionaries like Rick Doblin, Dennis McKenna, Shonagh Homes and other experts in psychedelic science, modern shamanism and neuroscience is brought to you by a blended team of US based and offshore contractors. There is no way I could create this media and promote this information without the help of my highly-valued offshore team, who has worked for me for years.
