LinkedIn is the new frontier for social video and nobody knows it better than Goldie! She started from scratch on the platform and built up a huge following over the last year posting daily videos. There is no better place for personal brand building than LinkedIn and this sounds like a great panel of experts that can help others get their start.

I will lose what little faith I had in Kickstarter if they don't suspend this project. This team, if it even exists, is incapable of producing a device like this. Their latest nonsense of accusing everyone who's critical of the project as paid shills for GPD is over the top. That lack of professionalism alone should be enough to raise some red flags on the part of potential backers.

Great post Dane! I appreciate that you talk about transparency and the need to make sure that the YouTuber is disclosing the financial relationship to the sponsor. That responsibility lies with the brand and/or agency so it's important that any YouTubers they work with acknowledge it in the video up front.

There are far too many examples on the platform of brands paying for reviews that are not disclosed in the content itself. It hurts the credibility of those of us who are trying to approach content creation ethically so consumers know exactly what the relationship is between a brand and creator.

The real reason is that there's a lack of scarcity on the inventory. I'm just a dude that started in my basement with two cameras and a dream :). I didn't have to get 'discovered' or hire an agent or anything, I just had to get started.

In the past being a radio/TV/newspaper star was a scarce thing - it was expensive to distribute the content. Now with that barrier gone the model has shifted and the inventory is much more plentiful since so many more people can have a shot at creating content.

So the mega stars in particular niches will do well and could earn in excess of $100-200k a year, but it's nowhere near what they would have made in the old media days with that size of an audience.

I am very happy with YouTube though. They are to video content what Uber is for taxi drivers. You get on the platform, participate in it, and if your stuff is good people will find it and you'll make money.

YouTube puts a priority on content that keeps audiences glued and they don't care if it's me or a bigger star doing it so long as they stay on the platform. It's very gratifying to see my stuff sometimes end up higher in search ranking over much better funded outlets like the Wall Street Journal and others. NO other platform is doing this nor providing this kind of opportunity to independent creators.

The YouTube revenue share isn't bad but it's nowhere near enough to live on (for me at least). But that's with only 1 million views per month, I suspect if the revenue scales with an increase in viewership I could make a living doing it. But it's enough that it keeps me motivated to continue generating content, better than any other platform (most of which pay nothing).

That said there's no way I could scale the business with this revenue level and add staff. Other revenue streams will need to be developed to do that.

There's no mention of Bing at all on there. Right now it says this:

"OS Windows8.1pro trial version pre-installed. Orignal license please contact us before payment,need add U$25/pc."

They continue to put illegitimate copies of Windows on these devices. Same deal as the older Meegopad. Either way I'm eager to check it out :). I'm most curious if they tweaked any more performance out of this revision.

I just read the fine print on the page, they do not include a licensed version of Windows for $109, you have to pay another $25 for the license bringing the cost to $134. Still a better deal especially with the added USB port. I'll have to check this out.

I don't often rise to defend the garbage that is cable television news, but this entire Mediaite post is incredibly unfair to Larson. His only mistake was that he should have corrected Baldwin who was clearly clueless one on the topic.

His analysis was on the hacker or hackers who posted the stuff to 4chan which is what he was prepared to answer.

The Sega 3D glasses were really ahead of their time - the 3D was surprisingly good. They had a light gun game that involved shooting missiles out in space that was built into my Master System that I loved showing off to friends.

I probably have half a terabyte of RAW files in Aperture format. Ugh.. No way I'm uploading all of that to iCloud. The bigger issue is what happens to those Aperture libraries when we're on OS XI or whatever comes out down the road.. A lot of conversion work for pro photogs. This really sucks.

It just so happens we are doing just that - but rather in a decentralized way vs. having a news organization with management layers. I co-founded the Independent Media Network that is helping Bill Bittar and a number of other former Patch editors launch their own independent sites.

Within the network we do have sites like CTNewsJunkie.com (also co-founders of the network) who cover state politics and news. Many of the local sites make use of portions of CTNewsJunkie content and link to the main articles. Sometimes CTNewsJunkie uses the local content in similar ways.

For a limited range car definitely. The Volt has the advantage being a hybrid so you might use a little more gas than you might otherwise in warmer weather. For the Tesla that commute isn't an issue - plenty of capacity in the battery.

The heater does make a significant impact. In my Volt I get about 40 miles on battery in the spring and summer, and only about 25 with the heater going. The Tesla is more forgiving but it's still a 20-25% range impact. Most of these cars allow you to get the cabin temperature up to the desired level when plugged in so that can take some of the initial pressure off.

I agree with alteredstory here. Having now driven this car extensively I can say that it lives up to the hype - it's not just the performance but the overall driving experience. There are few compromises with this vehicle: It's a mid-size sedan with plenty of room - far beyond that of any other plug-in vehicle.

The range is adequate for nearly all of my driving. I have not yet been in a situation where I start sweating over running out of juice. There are enough superchargers along most of my routes that I can get a charge if I need one without being terribly inconvenienced.

That said there's a little more route planning involved for larger trips - especially if your travels take you places where there isn't a supercharger available. So I don't think it's practical yet to make this the only car in a household. But it's very, very close.
