Ok, thanks for the soapbox rant.

I agree we need to move on, but this is simple economics. The market will go where the market will go. Some people still buy cars with big displacement engines. In turn, people will still make them.

Maybe you need to get out of the house? It's not Utopia out there, yet.

I agree.

There will, however, be a camp that wants an extremely torque-filled LARGE displacement engine. Cadillac has been building these cars for years and will probably never stop doing so.

Keep all the options.

Agreed. Screw the batteries, drop a turbo in with the diesel and see the MPG skyrocket even more.

This could be the first car to get an EPA rating of over 80mpg...

Cool idea, great step in the right direction...BUT...

I hate to be a nay-sayer, but this article is devoid of any performance numbers. How long does the supplemental charge hold? Does it help with towing / toting capacity?

Mexican manufactured VWs have had crazy amount of electrical issues. I am with you on this one...my wife's '03 turbo beetle is driving me insane.

Currently the brake light switch is acting funky, which in turn makes the turn signal go nuts when you hit it.

Oh yeah, it also doesn't let you shift out of park sometimes, either.
