I am glad that you enjoyed the post. I will probably be writing a lot more on small group stuff in the future. I hope that you come back for those discussions as well.

Re: Using A Blog For Small Group

Right now our primary means of communication is in person during our small group meetings every other week. The creation of the blog was intended to supplement the small group community by helping us to connect and communicate on the 13 days that we do not meet with each other. All of our small group members are married couples with 2+ kids each with hectic schedules and activities to jump around each week. It made sense to me that we could make a connection online when it was convenient for each individual. I could read other peoples updates at night when I have free time whereas someone else may have free time during the day to read and update. Unfortunately, it did not work very well for my group. I have seen online small groups work, but there is definitely a major element missing without personal interaction. I personally am just a relational junkie and I like to keep people up to speed with my crazy life and keep up with how everyone else is doing. Thanks for the comment Bailey. I like it when conversation gets stirred up around here.

Re: New Music From Red

Yeah, I am hoping to pickup this new album very soon.

Re: Farewell Nancy Zimpher

This is true. The Master Plan was laid out long before we were there. I think she was very good at marketing the university though. I saw more positive ads on tv and billboards after she showed up. I still think she wanted to make us like an Ivy League school, but it just would not fit the character of Clifton. Thanks for the comment.

Re: An Idea Regarding Our Online Interaction

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at this Rob. I have been thinking lately that using the Internet for improving communication and organization in our group may not play out exactly how I envision it.

For the most part, I think that everyone likes receiving the updates in email and the announcements do not go unnoticed. But I was kind of hoping for a little more community interaction beyond 2 Fridays per month. The Internet gives us that opportunity without having to schedule and plan times to meet. But the problem still seems to be that we all do not have the time to participate in online community.

This kind of online interaction is exciting to me and I am willing to continue to work at it to find what will work best for this group, but it is really up to the group to utilize the blog. Using online tools for small groups is still relatively new territory for churches, so I expect there to be some bumps in the road. I have seen other situations where this has worked and where it has failed. Either way, I will walk away from this with a better idea of how it can be useful. I also am looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on this. Hopefully we can take some time on Friday to discuss.

Thanks for being a Guinea Pig.

Re: An Idea Regarding Our Online Interaction

No comments from the peanut gallery?

Re: UN-Happy Groundhogs Day

I am really glad that I don't live in Vermont, but I think that I could still deal with living further south than Cincinnati.

Re: Pastor Says Married Couples Should Do It

I missed out on that series unfortunately. I always like to start with my low so that I can end on a positive note.

Low - I was yucky sick all day the day after Christmas. Pretty much felt like I was going to vomit every 10 mins or so. Drove the family to Toledo (Faith worked all night and was in no condition to drive) and made the return trip that night too. Spent the day in a chair trying to relax.

High - Spending Christmas day playing with my kids without an agenda.

On a side note, I may change the theme again because of how this one doesn't list the comments link unless I manually put it in there.

Re: One Life - Do You Want To Get Better?

Glad that you guys are keeping up. I am really happy to see that your new site has an RSS feed that I can subscribe to. It makes it easier to keep up with the latest updates. Now if you could get the comments turned on, I could leave a comment there. Happy New Year!

Re: Connect

Yes, it seems that Twitter is not updating when I publish a new post. Here is the verse:

16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

1Peter 2 - http://www.biblegateway.com...

We were trying to determine exactly what it means to use our freedom as a cover-up for evil. This is from the part of the chapter about submitting to every authority instituted among men for the sake of the Lord. I believe that we settled on the meaning of this verse to be that even though we live free under God's authority, that we are not to use that freedom to rebel against earthly authorities that God has placed us under. In simple terms we should not disobey the laws that we are under and use our Faith as an excuse to break the law. If anyone would like to discuss further, please comment, I am game. I can see where this may be a very debatable topic.

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » So I’m A Dad // Bad Medicine

I use that trick when I eat my vegetables.
