We need to be protesting the prosecutor though. The sheriff’s department has nothing to do with this! I have pulled this quote from the sanjuanislander as to why the kid wasn’t arrested! I think it’s crap!

“No arrest: Deputy Criminal Prosecutor Charlie Silverman explained why he makes a decision are made in case such as these not to take drivers into custody right away - if he believes the driver is not a threat to the community and nothing would be accomplished by taking the driver into custody and if the driver comes from a good family and has strong ties to the community.
Another consideration, he said, is the prosecutor's office needs time to investigate and has time limitations to prosecute once an arraignment takes place. Arraignments need to happen a few weeks after the arrest. The trial would have to begin 60 days after the arraignment.” (copied from www.sanjuanislander.com)

This only proves that there is profiling within the justice department! What I want to know is, what’s taking so long with the investigation? It seems pretty cut and dry especially with all the witnesses present! If you’d like I will give you my contact info and we can chat more about this! Charlie Silverman needs a wake up call! He has been way too lenient with criminals in the past and I fear he will simply smack this kid on the hand and tell him not to do it again! I don’t care who this kids family is or how perfect they are!

Re: Speed may be responsible for rollover crash at Raccoon Point - Islands' Sounder

Family member, I understand that you are upset with this article but, it sounds like the driver shouldn't have even been driving due to a suspended license! Way to go (sarcastic) guys, one more decision that makes me feel sick to my stomach to have our town ran by people like you! This is such a bad idea and heaven forbid you make someone mad by moving it to a better place! Stupid! You have completly lost all of my respect (not that you had much to begin with) but this is rediculous! However, I am one of those owners whose dog barks in the back of the pickup. She is not mean in any way just deaf. We have tried all sorts of ways to try to get her to be quiet with no avail. I know listening to a dog bark is annoying, I too get annoyed. I have weighed the situation and if she were agressive I wouldn't allow her to be with me in public. She is 14 years old and loves going for her rides. So, I am sorry that my dog is annoying but she is in no way going to jump or even bite at anyone and I am not going to take away from her her daily ride!

Re: Give the gift of access to education; book and computer drive Saturday for Ugandan village - Journal of the San Juans

I think it's wonderful what our island does for every where else. However, there are a lot of needy people one way or another here, on this island, other islands and in the U.S. It sickens me how everyone would rather help other countries than their own. From movie stars to our locals right here in Friday Harbor. WHAT ABOUT US?Granted, alot of third world countries need help but I say...Help OUR PEOPLE FIRST then the other countries!

Re: Islanders join in 'tea party' protest - Journal of the San Juans

Amen Art Vandelay! Again, why so defensive? I have watched you change your posts today, and your mood swings. It seems I have really got you all fired up! Maybe I am Pious but I know who I truly am and that's a hell of a lot better than someone who has been through something, tried to help and then gave up. Perhaps if you spent a little less time on the internet and a litttle more time trying to play well with others than you wouldn't fell the need to jump and insult people you don't even know. Maybe I am a pious pig, but then again you changed your comment before I had time to defend myself. Libratr, smarter2, whatever it is you are going by today, I pitty you. Obviously you have learned nothing from your "wise" ways. Your poor attitude is what is wrong with this country! I am sorry for what you went through but you seem to be talking out of your butt. Go hug a tree. Lol...thanks for the entertainment.

Re: San Juan Island man accused of shooting girlfriend; faces charges of first-degree assault, unlawful possession of firearm - Journal of the San Juans

I am glad this turned out not to be a DV case after all. With all the different information floating around there that is what we were led to believe at first. It turns out it was stupidity that caused it. As for all the comments, I am happy that people here do care! Even though some were un-educated and bilnd as well as good, it means that people created a rucus and thats the first place to start when you are trying to get a point across!

Re: San Juan Island man accused of shooting girlfriend; faces charges of first-degree assault, unlawful possession of firearm - Journal of the San Juans

smrter2 why so defensive? Obviously you have been lucky enough to have never been involved in a DV situation so I will disregard your uneducated and ignorant stupidity remark. Not everyone understands why or how or who but those of us who have been lucky enough to live through it understand! To the survivors…we need to stand up and get those who don’t know involved and educated! That was all I was trying to get at. The last thing I wanted was to offend anyone! The cops have nothing to do with making people testify, all they do is respond to the call! It is our Prosecuting attorney who needs to charge these people with the actual crime they have committed. Until this community acknowledges there is a problem, these types of shootings and not to mention what isn’t seen in the public spot light, will continue. With the utmost respect please feel free to visit www.domesticviolence.org this will help you understand your own questions and answer your ignorant answers.

Re: San Juan Island man accused of shooting girlfriend; faces charges of first-degree assault, unlawful possession of firearm - Journal of the San Juans

This doesn't surprise me at all! I am a domestic violence (DV) survivor myself and the community here has always looked the other way. Hopefully with the brother who killed his brother and this, people will start relizing that DV is everywhere we look and it does happen here. We have a major problem and if everyone, including the courts keeps letting these people walk the streets without proper punishment it is going to continue. This woman is very lucky to be alive. As for the man, he probably saw that the brother is only getting 5 years for killing his sibling so he thought he'd probably get away with it! Someone needs to do something! Any ideas, let me know. I am all for it! Do we need to hold a rally, a picket line, what?

Re: Five students disciplined for hazing at Friday Harbor High School - Journal of the San Juans

I agree with Malby4, how about some details! Maybe a little public embarrasment for the parents and kids involved would help teach them a lesson. Kids pick up their ways and attitudes from their parents, I can't help but wonder....I am glad the school is handling it so well. Sounds like these kids are going to get in as much trouble as the kid who shot his brother!

Re: Reaves pleads guilty to manslaughter, sentencing Feb. 13 - Journal of the San Juans

Only in Friday Harbor can a man kill his brother and pretty much get away with it. Why are they only asking for five years, that means he'll be out in three? Come on, does anyone else have a problem with a murderer walking our streets after only serving such little time? I am very dissapointed in our legal system! Good greif.
