that. Have fun and don't go looking for fights. You're very lucky to still have
a spiritual retreat in college. I only had one and it was in highschool. So
make the most out of it. Once you're out of school, you'll find it harder to
find time to rejuvenate spiritually, emotionally, mentally...

I guess I'm one of the few book bloggers who can't buy books online. (No credit cards.) And I guess that's also good because if I had this option, like you said, the TBR pile would be significantly bigger than it is now. The virtue of delayed gratification. Haha!

Everyone deserves a second chance. People need to realize we're not all finished products in this world so you can't just judge someone for one or two bad things they've done in the past. Good on you on realizing that negativities in the web seldom (if ever) lead to anything good. I've learned that the hard way. My first few years in blogging had a lot of senseless and even hateful posts. No good ever came out of that. I keep a private journal instead to vent out my frustrations and rants that are too much for public consumption. ;)

That's what I've been looking forward to see also as part of this movie's merchandise! An Appa plushie would be so... cute! Haha!

But yeah, this movie sucks. Those fans of the show who are still planning to see this just because they're curious how bad it is... please don't. I expected it would at least be watchable, IT IS NOT. It's unbelievable how M. Night managed to butcher such a great show. At some points in the film, it seriously felt like I was just watching a really bad parody of the TV show. Definitely NO BOOK 2 please!

Let me just say that I think it's awfully uncouth for Summit to release Breaking Dawn also in TWO parts. At least Deathly Hallows has enough stuff to merit being split into two. And it's unfortunate that HP 7 would be over before the part one of Twilight 4. I would have loved to see Deathly Hallows go head to head with the last Twilight movie/s just to prove who really is king of young adult book adaptations.

Zuko needs to regain his honor! Liked that last bit... made me remember the funny bits of this excellent TV show. Pity that Shyamalan had to ruin it through this sorry excuse of a movie. I haven't seen it yet obviously but the mass majority of fans and non-fans lambasting it overseas can't be all wrong. Still gonna see it if only just to see how horrible it really is.
The only thing that worries me now is that the next 2 books will probably not be made into films anymore. :(

Curse you Perseus! You've taken all the good 3D cinemas (except IMAX MOA) just when I wanted to watch Dragon again.

Anyhow, I'm a bit sad that you rated this the same way as you did with the previous Greek mythos-inspired film. IMHO, Percy Jackson is way better than this...

Thanks so much Phil for this review. After seeing it get 97% on Rottentomatoes, I immediately rushed here to see what you thought of it. And lo and behold, a 5-star! I didn't read your review right away for fearing of being influenced but I saw the movie same day on 3D. And after having seen it, I must say I agree with everything you said. I was literally holding my breath in all the flying sequences. Just beautiful. I'd even dare say that I enjoyed the flying here more than Avatar. *gasp* I do plan on seeing it again in 3D of course.

Aww.. Phil I had hoped you'd give this at least a 3/5. I understand why most fans would hate it but I actually loved it. In fact, I've seen it in 3 times now. Haha!

I was just in it for the fun and to see the story come to life onscreen. As for Logan's acting, Percy was supposed to be egotistical and just does everything out of impulse and I think he captured that fairly well. He wasn't supposed to be insecure or have a lot of doubts about himself like the typical unlikely hero. He just does what he thinks he needs to do.

There are a lot of flaws in the acting and script but as I later realized the movie wasn't trying to be a serious kind of movie at all. Hence, the sometimes annoying score. Even the books can't be compared the complexity of Potter's plot. Oh well, I've rambled enough. You can check my blog if you want to read a more positive review from a PJ book fan:

He always posts Sunday homilies and sometimes even daily Mass homilies. He's a young Catholic priest and he's very tech-savvy so I think this isn't impossible. The younger priests who can write well should really consider blogging.

I don't know yet of any other Filipino priest bloggers like Fr. JBoy though. :(

Anyway, hindi ko pa ito pinapanood in 2D. Pero 3D 2 times na. Sa Gateway at sa IMAX SM North. Mas okay talaga sa IMAX. Wag nyo na tipirin ito. ^_^

Nice review Phil! I'm glad to see one review that's actually balanced and fair about the movie. Yeah, the story's too simple and cliched but look at Titanic. History would teach us that you don't need to have the best storyline in the world to make a good movie. I'm actually impressed by Jim because he managed to turn this "unoriginal" plot to something even more. I believe the 3D actually helped in bringing out emotions from the viewers. In this case, the 3D aspect is not just mere gimmick.

I'll be watching it again on IMAX this weekend. Everyone should see this on 3D! See it in 3D or don't see it at all.

Definitely not all hype. Saw it yesterday on Gateway digital 3D and I was amazed by the effects! Nice story too. Will watch it again but this time on IMAX!

Woot! Can't wait! I'm planning to see this on regular digital 2D to understand the story first and then IMAX 3D later for the ultimate visual experience.

I haven't seen Sigaw yet but I'd love to see the remake anyway because of Direk Yam Laranas. I thought his NatGeo documentary "Asia's Titanic" was really good.
