dear tim,
as my environmental thinktanker future roommate Lucy points out, we have now realized just how enormo the environmental problems we are facing are. are we frightened, and therefore turn to Daddy/Captain/Government to help us out? are we fatalists? are we simply more realistic? Have to do some deep thinking abt this; fantastic post as usual; blog post in response forthcoming as always.

daleks and why they are not scary anymore: plz see R2D2, kthxbai.

our boogeymen? technology that we use daily, often slightly "smarter" than robots, but still not on the cutting edge. video (I would argue that the creepy supernatural girl in the ring wasn't scary --- the scary part was going home after the movie and being afraid your tv would spontaneously turn on and then you would die a horrible VHS death), cell phones (one missed call!), cameras (shutter or whatever --- I feel like there were a bunch of photograph-themed horror movies last year). I mean, children of all kinds are still scary, but they have been scary since time immemorial. ;)

about doctor who, though... ALL the villains are incredibly silly! it's maxim no. 1. and if they're not, you have to feel all compassionate and understanding about them, like the Oud. did you see the episode about the diet pills? that shit was CLASSIC. I love how doctor who is becoming incredibly social-comment-y, and thereby also becoming Twilight Zone 2.0. :D

oh my goodness, tim, is there some way that the long boring tiny brick of a book could be all the code for the service/application instead of tech specs? then it's all opensource and ALSO hilarious. :D

indiana jones... possibly the most wonderful, possibly the most shockingly terribly bad movie of all time. I haven't seen more retooled, recycled plot lines since... um... ever?
