I sometimes say: "I'm sorry you feel that way. In your shoes, I would probably feel that way too." It makes it hard for the other person to escalate the hostilities when you are kind and understanding in response to their rudeness.

Because a higher proportion of violent people involved in the statistical sample used in the instance you are quoting happen to be black, one should assume that all those who are black are violent, right? Making an ASS of U and ME... Meanwhile, what is the 'black' race? Zulus? Xhosas? Pygmies? Nigerians? Ghanaians? Zimbabweans? Cote d'Ivoriens? Tanzanians? Masai? Congolese? 'Afro-Americans'? A small handful of tin tacks thrown in the path of the vehicle might have slowed down its departure. Carrying guns and knives can get people who have not been trained in their use into a great deal more trouble than not carrying them. Maybe photography is a better bet than filming... discreetly get shots of the license plate and perps and go to the nearest place from which to call the cops. Filming a gang of people behaving in a violent manner is likely to arouse their anger towards one. Balls of steel are great but brain cells made of the same material not so great...

If that is the leadership shown then either the promotion process is flawed or refresher courses in customer relations are required for bosses. Don't the police know that the taxpayer is the customer in this equation? Where else do they imagine their salaries come from?

How do rude and churlish individuals like that second cop get to be in public 'service?' People like him bring policemen everywhere into disrepute. Do these thugs in uniform not receive any proper training? I have met cops like him in several countries, longing to go head to head with anyone whose face they do not warm to, without provocation and with an excess of zeal.

Hearing you speak on Talk Radio Europe less than an hour ago, Mr. Caldwell, my partner and I cheered and clapped several of your remarks and came straight to your website to read more of what you have to say. Unsurprisingly, we have found all of it to our liking, especially this article and some of the comments from other readers. We are loking forward to reading your new book. If more British politicians were of your calibre, the currently hopeless system of government might even be changed to one that worked for those whose funding supports it, in time! Alas, all too few appear to be in your league.

Speaking as one who has twice been on the receiving end of misdiagnoses of two widely differing 'problems' in teaching hospitals in the UK, albeit over two decades ago, leading to the prescribing of pills which very nearly wrecked my perfectly adequate health on the first occasion (and from which I was saved by an accupuncturist who sorted me out in two sessions having told me to stop taking the pills immediately) and to major surgery on the second occasion, when scar tissue found during a routine test was mistaken for pre-cancerous cells and which was later admitted to have been unnecessary after all, I am not inclined to place vast amounts of faith in modern medicine. The Internet allows one to research all the possible approaches to a set of symptoms and the logical thing is to try and use changes of lifestyle and diet first, in order to establish whether one has been causing the symptoms oneself and can make them disappear just as easily. The last time I consulted a GP or any other medical practicioner was in 1989 and the Internet has helped me stay healthy and fit ever since. Just saying. :-)

We acquire most of our possessions from charity shops in the first place and usually dispose of things we no longer need by giving them to anyone who wants them or taking them to each of the three charity shops we frequent in turn. Every time we have a clearout we seem to acquire wonderful new things remarkably quickly!

Surely, giving birth to a baby at such a young age could damage a girl physically, let alone psychologically! There is also a huge difference between an early developer whose hormones have led her to consensual sex and a victim of child rape. It is cruel to suggest that it is right or 'appropriate' to condemn a little girl to going through childbirth even though she did not consent to the act that brought about her pregnancy. This is quite shocking.

It is a very sad fact of modern life that people do not seem to care as much about others as they used to. An acquaintance who worked with Social Services in London told me several very disturbing stories of this ilk, back in the early 90s. It does seem even sadder that such a thing could happen in a small village though and your article expresses the poignancy beautifully.

FaceBook is to Twitter as a mass-market clothing chain is to a bespoke tailor, as far as I'm concerned - FaceBook may soak up the majority but Twitter will still appeal to a large enough minority to do very well indeed if it remembers not to panic and doesn't let itself be overcome by greed or a desire to dominate the universe.

Let the common herd go where it will, there is room for a FaceBook and a Twitter...

It really is a pain, isn't it? I'm having exactly the same problem and have been manually following since I first joined Twitter but am having to block so many spammers now that there isn't time to follow back genuine people some days and I keep getting behind with sorting through new followers. Shame.

Today I was unfollowed by someone to whom I had sent a polite refusal to get involved with the 'fun' offered in her DM. From the tone of the DM she sent just before unfollowing me, she clearly hadn't even been aware that her account had sent me a 'fun' DM in the first place, so it is bad for both sides of the equation.

It saddens me greatly that people with the skill and talent to do these things always seem to waste them on scams that irritate and annoy people instead of creating things to please and impress them.

This syndrome reminds me of small children whose parents only ever seem to notice them when they misbehave, causing them to misbehave whenever they need attention. In children it is totally understandable. In adults it is, as I said, just sad.

There's no doubt in my mind that Twitter will continue to be a breaking news source - maybe conventional media should offer Twitter the necessary funding to ensure there is always sufficient bandwidth, since it is clear that most are now turning to Twitter for early alerts on news of all kinds so it would suit them to ensure the flow is unstemmed.

There will be few news items that don't get mentioned on Twitter before any other place and, with so many of us following so many others, word will spread with ever increasing rapidity as people learn to differentiate between those whose word they can trust and those who are silly pranksters inventing 'news'.

Oh... that kind of verified... well, that's good too but I'm a little disappointed as I thought the announcement was going to be about people having to prove who they were to get a Twitter account, thus eliminating most spam and multiple billboard account creation. Maybe next time... :-)
