Not sure if I would want to make that my "index" page on an index page but would get an interesting element on an about me page. I'm sure it we be good for me personally to keep track of that and would be cool for Mind map fans to see but it might be too much information overload to some. It would be a neat idea if their was a service that could autogenerate such a map everytime you subscribe to a new service.

Re: Ping.fm / Uploaded Image from Cliff Ravenscraft

I think these guys have a solution!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: I’m Quitting Marketing at CostPerNews

In some ways it's very exciting to read this. I know that sounds silly but it did alter your planned schedule. I'm not sure how to think about this but I will explore it. I think deep down crystals may still be curved on the molecular level it's just that the curves are tighter! How can we apply curves to flow chart? I have been thinking about project management a lot lately in order to may my business more productive. Are curves added "ifs" that pop up along the process? The plan B if you will? Or are you think more along the line of a schedule having a little more flexibility? Good stuff to think of and I think a huge source of our stress is when we panic when we can go the expected straight lines. Kind of like walking down a sideway or avoiding an obstacle in the road where we have to curve around it. In longer terms the detour if you will.

Often we can not do anything about the "curves" that are out of our control but maybe we can include extra learning in that process.

Vulanized rubber, potoato chips and post-it notes were all curves.

Re: Go Green, Lose the Yellow Pages

We recently had our end of the year budget meeting and while most will think we are cutting back because of "hard times" that is far from the truth. This past year was actually one of our best yet but we went over what was and wasn't working for us. The yellow pages was one of those things that wasn't plus as a company that provides new media services we felt it best not to support a business model that hasn't brought us any income plus I'm amazed at the waste that goes into the process of putting these huge directories out. Even if they do use recycled paper the plants that produce them use power and the means of delivery also burns needless fuel. I can understand why some segments of our population still may need them but I say give us an option of at least opting out.

If you would like to read the article I wrote about our budget considerations the link is right here.

http://www.spinningsilkmult...

Patricks last blog post..What questions bring about innovation and growth?

Re: In the battle to replace Twitter, no winners emerge

I am one of those to sign up for just about any new service getting some notice but I admit I'm pretty much stuck on Twitter. Plurk is interesting with it's time line and threaded posts but scrolling sideways is also annoying. I'm used to Twitter and now have well over 500 followers. Why should I start over somewhere else? I think instead of all of us out here constantly trying new things and getting fatigue some of these ventures should swallow their pride and think about some mergers.

Why do we need Twitter, Rejaw, Plurk when they are all doing pretty much the same thing?

As an overall general micro-blogging service I would like to see Twitter buy Rejaw and maybe Plurk.

I love the concept of Yammer which is like Twitter for a business or organization. I have wanted that for a long time but would love to see it have some of the same functionality as Pownce which I have an account for as well but don't use.

Patrick's last blog post..Are your morning “blog biscuits” canned or homemade?

Re: Can you read the Bible in Greek or Hebrew?

This is one of the things I have desired the most as a church going Christian. It's always kind of bothered me that we have had to depend on pastors to say, "In the original Hebrew" or "In the original Greek." I have yearned for a Sunday school class to be a real school of learning things that are normally reserved for seminary. It's almost as if there is a touch of the pre-reformation and Gutenburg press days when only the priests and monks had written scriptures. I wish at least some basic words, etc. could be taught like the way the young of the Jewish faith are taught in the original language.

Re: Quick review: Rejaw. Do we have the Twitter killer?

Something like this would be great to consider. I have signed up for just about every thing out there just to check it out and get my user name in but for all practical purposes Twitter is where the majority of the traffic is in regards to microblogging. No, it's not the best but would you rather eat mediocre food at a gathering of good friends or sit by yourself in a fancy restaurant. Ok, that is not the best analogy because I would like to have some "me time" in a fancy resteraunt but we are talking about a communication medium here. If I sign up for this more than likely I'll play with it for a little bit but will eventually wane off of it and stick with Twitter mostly.

I've just about had it up to here with too many social networking services. It's like going to a party and trying to decide which circle to stand in and at the same time they are building more rooms on to the house. Let's find some way to standardize in the social networking arena. It's getting out of hand.

Re: Announcing Project Dogfood

Sounds great. I myself own a small company but goal is to not always kept it as small as it is. Currently we are my wife, myself and about 4-5 freelancers on call in addition we outsource administrative/bookkeeping duties to a local firm (prefer to keep it local and help the local economy). However I have also seem that their can be a danger in keeping a business "too small" out of fear, laziness, contentment with the current situation, etc. A couple of days ago I wrote a blog post addressing this subject. Small is good in many respects but would making it a little bigger help make things more secure for both family and clients?

I share the sentiments with the photographer above. I also do photography work as part of my business and while I deeply desire to perfect that craft and be known for it I can be everywhere all the time and they'll come a day when I'll have to swallow my pride and get another photographer to help me out.

Is their a "sweet spot" between being too small and too big? I think being a "one man band" and being a multinational company can both have disadvantages as well as advantages.

Re: 25 Kwippy Invites

I'm game. The majority of those like AARP and National Geographic are actually part of a value added package for being a member of something. When I was a Boy Scout the same kind of held true for Boy's Life magazine. I've seen too many magazine go under because of poor ad revenue and being free at the same time. The National Association of Photoshop Professionals also has similiar deal with their magazine, Photoshop User magazine.

Maybe the trick is not trying to go build an "online community" per se (Although NAPP does this pretty well) it's making the readers feel they are more than people being marketed too. If one has a National Geographic subscription not only do they receive a well crafted, artful and professional magazine once a month but they also have access to other deals and are considered a member of the society.

Something to think about as I haven't ever thrown away old National Geographics or Photoshop User magazines.

Re: New Indiana Jones 4 Movie Poster - What Do You Think?

Is Dom Deloise still alive? The topics are generally very fascinating and make for good "water cooler" talk but like so many other conferences I always feel left out for two reasons;

1.) The price - even $1,000 much less $6000 is way out of the realm of possibility for me or my company most of the time. Even if I had that much disposable income I doubt I would ever spend it on "high thinking" conference.

2.) Location - I live on the east coast and specifically in Greenville,SC also known as "Charlanta" as it's between Charlotte and Atlanta and unlike the rest of the area it's a growing area that attracts a lot of modern manufacturing and tech companies. Despite that you rarely see anything like TED, SXSW, MacWorld like events, CES, etc. coming this way. They are usually in L.A., S.F, Seattle or Vegas. It very hard for me to get away, buy a plane ticket and commit all that downtime to these events however I am hearing more and more from you A-List and tech celebrities that I'm not really missing anything by not going since I can pretty much access all I would really be interested in via the Internet

All that being said their is a part of me that is very jealous of those who can attend such event and often on a whim because they are either, "somebody", live or work close by or have employers who can foot the bill. Needless to say I am self-employed and still in the early days of my company. Some month are very good some not so good but regardless of the income I can't really afford to be away.

Is their a way we can have something "TED-Like" for the rest of us?

Re: Nearly a million users, and no spam or trolls - RussellBeattie.com

I don't know, I have had people add me to their "friends" list but for all practical purposes they are not people as much as they are "marketing" campaigns. You can only take an anology like that so far however because in the past I have work with some of the most cynical, depressing co-workers but would have voted for my boss in a second.
