I hate to say it, but I used to be where your friend was - I know I made a hurtful comment to my Mom a few years back as she was excited about the idea of redecorating and complimenting my creativity, and I said something about it all being kind of frivolous and how I wanted to spend my life focused on things that really mattered. I was sincere, but it was an arrogant position, and one that unintentionally belittled her. I see all of that very differently now, and have spent more time on writing and photography and other creative projects without that guilt or shame that I used to feel, believing that God made me creative on purpose, and He delights in it when we use the gifts He gave us well. I understand more deeply the value and sacredness of having a beautiful place to call home, something inviting that uniquely reflects you and your family.

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad it's been a restorative summer for you. I've started counseling recently for my second round with depression & anxiety, and it's already been so helpful. I can relate on the perfectionism and going back and forth between not wanting to go and then wanting to be the best counselee ever!! I'm trying to back off and accept that it's a slow process and it's worth the work.

Cracking up at the baby dedication story and the "Jesus take the wheel! And the baby!" :) I'm always happy to see these updates knowing how long you all prayed for this baby. He's a cutie, and that first black and white picture of you with him is precious!

Agreed! What if we didn't take our cues and inspiration from the world's version of success? What if we genuinely tried to build God's kingdom instead of building our own platform? (I believe your heart is good, and I believe Oprah is sincere in caring about people. But the way this post is phrased makes "act like you care" sound like a manipulative tactic for self-promotion.) The motive behind what we're doing matters deeply to God, and it matters to people, whether they're able to discern it clearly or not.

James, I'll be praying for you in your interview today! Stay strong in the Lord and keep trusting His timing.

I also want to mention my younger cousin, Blake, again. He had a brain tumor removed last year and still has facial nerve damage and his hearing is impaired, so pray for miracle healing for him! And there is another brain tumor, so pray that it won't grow or cause further damage!

I'm a member of the South Tulsa LifeChurch campus. I am fasting and praying for my cousin, Blake. He's 21 and has bilateral brain tumors. They removed one of the two last summer and it has paralyzed half of his facial muscles, but the doctors say that sometimes the nerves will work again.... so pray that he'll be able to smile again (and for no growth in the remaining tumor.) His hearing has also been impaired by the surgery, so pray that that will improve dramatically! Thanks for the prayers. I know God is going to move in awesome ways as we all come together and agree in prayer for each other's needs!

Heath, just wanted to let you know I'll definitely be praying for your sister... that she won't harden her heart against God, and that He will give you opportunities to share His love with her.

On another subject, I heard the story of the prodigal son yesterday, and the pastor said part of the reason the Father ran to him was so that the older brother wouldn't get to him first and make him feel that he'd missed his chance completely. I just think it's good to remember that when people are finally ready to come back to God, they need us to greet them with unconditional love and mercy, not judgment or bitterness over the time they missed it. I'm praying that this series will draw people back to their First Love, and that we, as the church, will disciple them and grow together in Christ!

What an awesome impact we would have if we truly "BE the church" God has called us to be!!

I'm praying that God will use the unified church as never before, and that we will take our calling seriously and live as true representatives of Christ's heart and character!!

I believe God's going to work through the church and impact the world like never before through a UNIFIED church! I'm praying that we will take our calling seriously and behave as the chosen representatives of Christ, bringing honor to His name!
