Good point. I spoke to an attorney when I was researching this piece, and one thing he brought up was that a side effect of the contentious Bork hearings is that Supreme Court nominees are now very circumspect when it comes to discussing their opinions on legal matters. So all we're left with, really, is their personal lives, which is kind of odd given the fact that the hearing is essentially a job interview.

Ha. Duly noted. How's this? Bork's Supreme Court confirmation hearings led to the passage of a 1988 privacy law that still governs parts of how our information is shared across networks (even though it was written long before social media was an everyday part of most of our lives).

Yeah, you totally could. But it'd sure be a lot easier if you could just click a checkbox somewhere to let Netflix do it for you. That's where the law comes in -- when a company shares your info on your behalf.

Thanks so much for sharing your point of view. It's such an interesting one. Do you think anything about your Aspergers has an effect on the kind of NRA instructor you are? Are you better or different than other instructors because of it, or does it not matter?

(There are plenty of other forums on CNN.com for discussing the other issues in this story, but this page is about the victims.) Hi there - instead off turning off the comments here, we are deleting posts that are not directly related to memories or condolences, since this piece is about the victims. There are plenty of lively threads on other parts of CNN.com where people are discussing gun control and other issues, and while we welcome those discussions, we do not think they are appropriate on this piece.

Thank you very much for your comment. I work for CNN and this afternoon am reading the comments on this page, and deleting the ones that are not directly related to remembrances and tributes to the victims.

I've seen several commenters here asking that CNN turn off this thread, and I'd like to ask that any of you reading along who spot comments that are off-topic please to vote them down. There are many lively threads about gun control and many other topics on the main news stories on CNN.com, and we welcome those discussions there. But not here please. This piece is about the victims, not the politics. Thank you.
