Thanks! I think your team does a great job of letting it be simple for people who just want a to-do list, but there is a lot of power and depth under the hood. There are so many complaints in these comments...remember everybody this is FREE! Be grateful for that instead of whining about why they don't bow to your demands and make YOUR feature a priority.

Re: I’m Not Supposed to Post This, and Why I Probably Did

High Five!

Fun memory-last conversation we had was about starting a Soul Coughing cover band. I teach design at a college. But I have no formal training as a teacher. All that matters is if I have an MFA and my values align with the school (christian institution). I could be a great designer, but a lousy teacher. So no matter how great I am at my trade, if I can't communicate the methods and principles, I fail. In a sense, having great teaching skills should be a prerequisite to teaching, not great ability in an area of study.

Feel the same way about music leaders. Condition of the heart should be the prerequisite. Musical talent should be considered secondarily. The fact that it's flip flopped most places seems like a symptom of the prevalence of the production first mentality present in a lot of churches.

My parting question would be this: how do you measure "success"? Do we want to put excellence as our highest value so as to not distract from the message presented, or is it more of a mix of excellence, spiritual growth, and teaching theology all together? Do we want a group of people who are non-offended, comfortable, and skimming on the surface, or do we want to offend some, make some uncomfortable for the sake of drawing most into something deeper?

The worship leader who was brought in for primarily their talent will give you excellence, but a leader whose heart condition is solid will take you deeper even if sometimes they don't hit all the notes. Just have to decide which one is "success".

Re: The Imminent Death Of The OverProduced Sunday Service

Wow, I don't read a single comment disagreeing or defending the over-the-top weekend services. Interesting.

I'm also in agreement with you Carlos. Trying to emulate and integrate a culture that is crushing us with marketing, connectivity, data, etc seems like the last thing the church should be doing. When people gather as a church body, I'd hope we would encounter the antidote to the nastiness of everyday life, not be covered in more. Being relevant is totally....not...

Re: The Cascading To-Do List (how to get BIG things done)

Hey great article! I feel a pretty deep sense of urgency to work towards communicating something that is different, not just "us too, but we're better." If we aren't the price leader, I think it is going to take big culture shifts at private higher ed institutions to remain relevant...and keep the doors open. Especially in northern Indiana, right? :) So to me it's a matter of who is going to be honest with themselves, step out and say "we're different."....and then follow that up with actions.

Re: http://imjustcreative.tumblr.com/post/20130410289

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Thank you!!!!!!!

Re: The inevitable battle over college education in America has begun.

So glad you're talking about this...looking forward to the solutions we uncover here at Bethel

Re: http://tonysteward.me/post/18083256395

I think the subjectivity of art will never allow us to make a black and white distinction on this. As an artist, I may have meant one thing with provocative art. But as an observer, I may interpret it totally different than what was intended. So naked art isn't inherently evil in my opinion. But the condition of the heart of the observer sets the context for it. Just like having a beer-you may just be celebrating with friends...or you may be looking for an escape from reality. Depends on the heart.

Re: My Week With Milton Glaser (or How I Learned that Failure is Not an Option)

Added it to my queue. Right-clicking a file on your server and selecting view/edit downloads a local copy and lets you edit it with the program of your choice (have to set which program for filezilla to use first). When you save the file in your editor and switch back to Filezilla it asks if you'd like to upload the new version. You can keep that open in your editor and keep making changes and uploading until your heart's content.

Hopefully I'm not missing the concept here...give filezilla a shot with this.
