These are often people who would like to start their own company or do something more artistic/creative. Even though this measure going through isn't perfect, it gives hope. Hope is what I am looking for for my kids, nieces, nephews, and grandkids. Hope is what we should be pushing.

Re: Shake your fists, then get real

When have we ever gotten everything we want and/or deserve? In the workplace we make compromises almost daily. When I taught, I had to use a curriculum that was approved by the state even if I didn't really like what was in it. If I wanted to add that was all right as long as I still taught what "they" said so the students would do well on tests. If I wanted something changed, I worked within the system to compromise with others to get the curriculum changed.

I, like you, wish this were a perfect world where the best always won. Like you, I agree that we need to be pragmatic. If we get rid of the pre-existing, rescissions, huge profit, etc. and regulate the industry, I agree that we win to fight another day.

Like someone else said, if we don't do anything; we lose. Like others, I am afraid that doing nothing tanks the entire progressive agenda and gives the Right a win that we can't afford as individuals or a country.

Re: On leaving the left, compromise, and dialogue

My thoughts expressed very eloquently and factually. Haven't kept up with a lot because have been so busy but make time to read a few people's posts and twitter to try to keep up on the debate. Keep up the work.

Re: Insurers Adopt Tobacco Strategy, Make Case for the Public Option

Just wish more of the RWNJs were actually interested in the facts. They would rather believe lies being spouted even when those lies are debunked. Good job.

Re: Health Care Reform: Change We Deserve or Believe In?

I bet there are a lot who would. It can't be any more expensive than COBRA payments or going out to try to purchase private.

I tried to purchase private almost 15 years ago because the school I was in didn't have an insurance plan. I could get one for daughter but not me because I had had fibroid cysts and had a hysterectomy. I was healthy at that time. I know there are a lot more just like that out there.

Re: Health Care Reform: Change We Deserve or Believe In?

I agree we need to get the most we can and then go for more as we can. I like the idea of a opt in for Medicare/Medicaid with no age limit.

Would like to see no pre-existing, employer mandate, lower costs with regulations on the insurance companies, etc.

I keep hoping for the whole ball of wax.

Re: Today’s Nattering Nabobs of Negativism Award: Los Alamitos School District

They would much rather hear an inarticulate white guy. It is "scary" to them that a black person has so much power. They have demonized and painted this caricature of the black person and he flies in the face of that. They don't want their children to be "confused" by what they see; especially since it directly contradicts what they have told them for so many years.

As a former teacher, I often had my days interrupted for some politician who wanted to come in and hand out something then make a "few remarks." Nothing was said by the administration nor parents.

Hope we get back to a place with this President where the office is respected. Disagree if you must but be civil and have respect for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES no matter what color his/her skin, religion, or cultural diversity. I know too naive; but I'd rather be that way than so filled with hate.

Re: Real Canadians Talking Real Health Care

Good video. Thank you for doing this. I hope it is aired on some of the major networks. And someone said there are no accents; there are but subtle and wording is different.

Thank you for taking the time.

Re: The Night Ted Kennedy Died

I sleep with a fan on all the time so I don't hear noises. I don't know how you suggest that to these people who are next door. It doesn't seem like they really want to get along. Good luck with this problem.

Re: Dennis Prager Has 10 questions. As stated by others the $$ numbers are not "set in stone;" but the cost of maintaining the status quo is something that everyone agrees will be even higher. The basic premise, I think, will be met; the details are still illusive because we are not talking about a specific bill.

One commenter says President Obama has not kept his word and specifically refers to the stimulus. I'm not sure what he is referring to but can't think of a way the President was untruthful except in the fact that he wanted bipartisan support and only got 3 GOP votes. He did include GOP ideas which ultimately weakened the bill.

One person can't pass a bill; therefore, a bill will change and there will be parts the original person might have wanted that are removed or things added. That is the way our system works.
