As a long ago graduate of 12 years of Catholic school, to me the use of the word modest definitely implies control, judgement and denial of healthy sexuality. It makes me cringe. I don't wear tank tops, low cut blouses, short skirts, etc. but would never describe my style as modest. With the polarity current in the US, "non-modest" dressing certainly has a subtext of immodest and shaming.

Re: Review and Giveaway: J.Jill Uncomplicate Me This Spring | Wardrobe Oxygen: Review and Giveaway: J.Jill Uncomplicate Me This Spring

Love the JJill flared cotton tunics, and tank tops. They wear really well. They don't have a Brooklyn or Manhattan store, so I have to do online shopping.

Re: Classic Brooklyn Books

I know. I've been looking for them for a young girl in my family. I read these books to my kids in the 80s, and haven't seen new copies in years. You could try Powell books in Portland, OR. They have everything, I think!

Re: Classic Brooklyn Books

For children, the probably out of print books of author Ruth Chew, who sets magical adventures in the Botanic Garden and other Brooklyn locales.
