I'm pretty happy right now. For my part in our success today I thank above all, my Creator who has blessed me with talented & supportive people. This job is going to be a whole lot of fun ~

Re: Toshiba, Trade Me & Price Spy

Please note that since this post Price Spy re modeled its website and is now a crazy mess of information that is borderline unuseable.

Re: The myth of the protectable advantage

Q. Whats your protectable advantage?
A. We are. Our team, our talent & our values.

"...Even if you’ve got a great idea, it takes tons of time and talent to turn it into something worthwhile..."
I can say with confidence that our team is our greatest strength, we are talented, motivated and experienced but more than that we are aligned. We found our common ground and the shared purpose towards which we, as a team and individuals, aspire. Find another set of co founders (3) that can match us on passion and talent and if you can, invest in them.

Re: Blog by Doug Richard on lifestyle businesses | Smarta

Great to hear support for the contractors vs employee model which our start-up operates across a distributed and mobile team. Absolutely, I believe contracting will prove to be the future of workforce organisation because of its inherent ability to lower overheads, increase productivity and improve work-life-balance.

The way we work is changing and with it comes a shift in power, away from the corporate hierarchy that directed and controlled productivity in the past towards the innovative, more flexible contract workers that are ready and able to work, as needed. Applying talent and interests to a job you love sounds like a great lifestyle to me.

As an entrepreneur while I work harder and longer than I ever did as an employee I have more flexibility and time to love and enjoy the people and life I live. Quite frankly, I venture the opinion that if you operate a business and it doesn't improve your lifestyle then somethings wrong.

Re: Making Decisions on Values, Not Biases

The most important step we took when establishing our startup team was to discuss the values that are important to each of us. The values that defined who we are, what we do and what is important to us. Through open and frank communication we discovered that despite our very different backgrounds we have several founding values in common. Today, our values create a synergy for our team, they are the basis for our shared vision and an enduring point of reference for decision making.

Re: The Big Idea: How to Start an Entrepreneurial Revolution - Harvard Business Review

Great article. My personal experience with a govt. backed incubator supports the evidence you present regarding incubators & clusters, and set me on the path to discover an emerging web start up community.

I am now a member of the Distiller: A collaborative support network of young and aspiring entrepreneurs creating an environment wherein we support and encourage each other, offer feedback and share the highs and lows of the new venture journey, together.

It is organic, collaborative business community at it’s best, one which provides a shining example of an environment overwhelmingly governed by the trust/reputation/community approach.

The incubator although a completely different story, is now an experience for which I can be thankful because it forced me to seek out and discover the amazing people I work alongside.

Re: How to Create an Entrepreneurial Economy

Here's to empowering & encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit. I am grateful to live in Dunedin (NZ) a city that effectively empowers & encourages entrepreneurship. Here, our strong sense of community facilitates ongoing collaboration between our young entrepreneurs, tertiary institutes, community groups and local government.

Re: Why Betterness Is Good Business

Informative post, indeed the empirical data is impressive yet I imagine it only works to sway those whose true values don't already align with social enterprise, encouraging their pursuit of improved performance and higher returns rather than the value of helping people and communities affect positive change.

Re: Study Confirms Worst Fears About Generation Y Workers - Daily Brief - Portfolio.com

PROBLEM is while many of us Gen Y recognise in ourselves a wealth of promise – we’re talented, enthusiastic and educated, connected and informed – in many cases, we lack the planning, time management skills, discipline and experience to fully realise our potential.

Therefore PROMISE exists for those leaders who can inspire, support and encourage the growth and personal development of the Gen Y workforce and in this way provide guidance and reason for us to stick around.

I agree the future of learning is about collaboration and building shared intelligence using technology to connect, communicate and work together. Technology enables us to circumvent barriers ($, location, eligibility ) to learning and knowledge and will play an integral role in helping us innovate, create and build new businesses and proactively shape our own futures.
