I thought it wasn't bad, but then again I've never seen the Sidney Lumet version. It boasted some big Japanese movie stars, though, including Ken Watanabe's daughter. It was neat to see a re-imagining of it in a Japanese landscape (similar to how we recently saw the Japanese remake of "Unforgiven").

Re: Murakami's agony uncle column opens for business

Just wanted to help out anyone who actually wants to read his letters:

I've started doing translations of the questions and answers and posting them at Mr. Murakami's Place. It's completely unofficial--I have no affiliation with Mr. Murakami or the publishing company that's doing this--but I've been a big fan of his for a long time, and I decided to make a personal project out of it.

Re: The 25 Best Video Games of 2013

Somehow I was totally unaware of DiveKick! Thanks for the recommendation!

Re: The 25 Best Video Games of 2013

This is a really solid list, and while I might rework the ordering a little bit, I almost entirely agree with what's on it. It just has one MAJOR oversight: TowerFall. It's a little-known game because it's only available on the cringe-inducing Ouya system. It's a multi-player archery arena battle game, and the simplest way to describe it while effectively expressing how fantastic it is is by saying, "It's like Super Smash Bros. with one-hit-kills." It's THE best game of the year. Thankfully, in early 2014 their exclusivity deal with Ouya will end and TowerFall will become available on the PS4, when it will finally get the recognition it deserves!

Re: This Week In Trailers: Circo, The Great White Silence, Norwegian Wood, All That Remains, Waste Land, The Bleeding

I saw Norwegian Wood in December and I gotta say it moved me almost as much as the book did. The film did a great job of capturing the essence of the book. And as a film the visual style is great. There's a 3- or 4-minute long take midway through the movie that was fantastic. I was wondering when the movie would make its way over to the US.

Re: http://incline.tumblr.com/post/1259234559

sweet poster! wish i could be there

Re: lawrence denes dot com - Japanese school lunch fun facts:

I can say that these are 100% true for all the schools in my city, though.

Re: Back in Japan—things to do

haha, thanks for the tip!

The cool thing about C25K is that it starts out REALLY easy. The first week is just 20 minutes of alternating jogging for 60 sec and walking for 90 sec. And it gradually gets more challenging. I really have been doing almost no exercise at all up til now, so I think this will work well for me.

Re: http://lawrencedenes.com/post/840431732

You can also randomly get it at the K3 Furniture Superstore in Toyama (along with Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper)!

Re: http://lawrencedenes.com/post/800450008

I hear ya, man

Re: http://lawrencedenes.com/post/800450008

It's an NEC notebook. I don't think there's a single building in this whole town that's 12 stories tall. The tallest building around is a hotel, and it's only 7 floors or so.

Did you get my email that I sent to you around New Years? I thought maybe it got filtered into your spam folder again, but I dunno. It's fine if you were too lazy to write back, cuz I was too lazy to follow-up on the email and make sure you got it. haha. Anyways, I hope you're excellent. I'm fine, although I was very sick for the last 24 hours and spent most of that time in the bathroom (overshare?). But I'm feeling better now, so it's all good. I wish I could come over to your apt and play some Earth Defense Force 2021 again. I did, however, end up getting the one that I liked more than the others, which was an Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong combo. But I probably only liked it cuz I'm such a sucker for them.
