I am not one of the teachers. Sounds like you are pretty upset with your job though. You have to work 52 weeks out of the year with NO vacations? Why don't you quit since that seems like your first answer to everything. I wasn't complaining that they have to do those things. I was just saying that you need to realize they don't get 12 weeks off a year paid. If this were just about the money don't you think they would have signed the contract a long time ago since they were offered a pay raise?? DUH!!!!!

Anyways, I am done talking to you. You have blinders on and refuse to look at all angles of this issue. Having a debate with someone who is ignorant is a waste of my time.

Re: STRIKE UPDATE: Teachers rally at ShoWare and strike continues - Covington Reporter

You are obviously pulling things out from thin air. This is how they are paid- Teachers are NOT paid for any vacations, such as Spring Break, Winter Break, or the supposed 12 weeks off during the summer. They are paid for the 181 days they are legally required to work, which said amount is then divided by 12 to give them a check for each month. Plus during the UNPAID vacations they are usually working on grading so you as parents don't get upset when it comes to your students grades. Get your facts straight. Think about this...do you really want your kids to go back to school and have teachers teaching them that aren't under a contract? It's been a whole 3 days that they have been out of school. So your kids lose out on the midwinter break....oh my goodness what is this world coming to? The district has known about these issues for years- they could start by have the Superintendent Vargas take a pay cut since he makes more than our Vice President of the United States AND the Governor of Washington. Doesn't look like he earns his paycheck to me! Oh and don't forget that a lot of the administration gets paid for full time work and they don't work full time. You need to look at both sides before you embarrass yourself by not knowing the facts.

Re: STRIKE UPDATE: Teachers rally at ShoWare and strike continues - Covington Reporter

Here is the actual information you need- Teachers are NOT paid for any vacations, such as Spring Break, Winter Break, or the supposed 12 weeks off during the summer. I am sure if you average it out over a year with all the hours they work during a school year it comes out to way more than 40 hours per week. Like I said, most take continuing education classes or have conferences that the school wants them to attend. So NO they don't get 12 weeks off. How do you even get 12 weeks of vacation when a school year ends in the middle of June and then they go back to school at the end of August? They also DON'T get paid for the vacations in a school year- so wow that means they don't get paid for all 52 weeks. Get your facts straight.

Re: STRIKE UPDATE: Teachers rally at ShoWare and strike continues - Covington Reporter

Wow..you are obviously misinformed! Maybe we should take a look at some of the administrators salaries and then let's see who we call greedy. Did you know that the Superintendent for KSD, Vargas, makes $240,000/year PLUS an $833 monthly car stipend(I would think he could afford his own car payment and insurance on that salary). This is MORE than another government employee we all know- Joe Biden- have you heard of him? He is the Vice President of the United States and he only makes $227,300/year. Teachers work a lot more than 40 hours a week. Do you think they get paid for grading your childs work?(assuming you even have kids in the school district) Most do this work at home where they are NOT paid. Would you like to go home from your long day and then continue to do work you aren't paid for? Ummm probably not. You would also be surprised as to how many go to conferences and take classes during the summer to further their education and then to pass that education onto your child. Obviously the kids' well being is not your first priority. Why don't you check out www.kentschools.org Maybe you can become informed of the real issues that the teachers are striking for and then make an educated comment.

Re: STRIKE UPDATE: Teachers rally at ShoWare and strike continues - Covington Reporter

Wow..you are obviously misinformed!
