Even though I learned all the skills at a superficial level with RMI, I didn't meet anyone to climb with until doing the WAC class. The review at a slower pace (every week through 2 months instead of all in 5 days) really helped me feel more comfortable with stuff too.

By the way, I haven't done much climbing in BC, but on glaciers in WA September can have some of the most unfavorable snow conditions in terms of exposed ice, crevasses, etc. So you might find stuff you'd do in season here a lot easier (with the right equipment, I'd rather walk on good snow than an average trail). Though if you're going climbing in Nepal I guess everything here will be small time and you won't need any advice from people like me!

Re: Review: Orikaso Bowl and Cup

I haven't used the orikaso, but I've used the fozzils (the ones with the snaps) and don't like them. That doesn't mean I don't hate the anticipation of falling...

I don't know if it's just me, but Vantage seems to have a lot of stressful anchors. Several times I've been hanging on at the top of the climb unable to shift my weight off either hand, staring at the anchor chains... Maybe something to do with the anchors being placed in the solid unbroken rock, instead of the kind that chunks off and leaves nice holds.

Re: In the gym... and a fear of falling update...

Gym training? I'm relatively inexperienced at leading trad and good at cleaning/following, so when I'm climbing with a more experienced partner in a team of 2 I know that if I ask for the lead I'm going to climb slower, place more gear, do one pitch where two could be linked together, and otherwise slow us down. If I'm in 3, not only am I usually the middle person in terms of experience, but we've already decided we're going to be much slower than a team of 2.

Lot easier to pee on route too, since you're not always on belay, heh...

Re: An open letter to the universe.

Thanks for the weather request, it seemed to work out.

(except for the HIGH WIND ADVISORY GUSTS FROM 40-57MPH on Monday that canceled our Cat in the Hat attempt on Monday...)
