I just wanted to clarify that the only reason I mentioned that he was black was the relevance to the theme of the show's paintings. I've written about hundreds of artists and never called out attention to the color of their skin. Any surprise at his talent I may have alluded to was because of his young age and most certainly not his background.

Some very cool content. Engagement as opposed to money may be the goal of such "branding" but are these brands requiring subscription, likes or follow to participate in their giveaways or contests?

It would be enlightening to know the data in terms of how much these stunts increase the number of followers and/or subscribers to the brand. And ultimately, how that affects their bottom line.

Trish, I'm sorry if you are offended. This blog often requires a healthy does of humor - or perhaps having to turn the cheek- every once in awhile. This is one of those times. I think even the Big Guy upstairs would chuckle at this, but we all have different relationships with religion.

At first glance, on my little phone, unable to read the copy, I thought this was merely a redesign and thought to myself "Gee, that cover on the left is so much better designed than the one on the right." Then I read the article. While I totally agree with Katherine's content choices, I didn't think it was possible to make the cover even more poorly designed than the original, but Katherine did just that. With no sense of scale, bad cropping and no respect for typography (and those horrible little white boxes!) I'm amazed she calls herself a graphic designer.

Thanks so much for the correction. I know he did the other temple (the second to last photo), but was unaware that the other photo was old. I hate when people don't ut the date on their photos, lol. I will actually change that image.
