As one of the backers of this campaign, we're currently all feeling like we've been conned. Perhaps adding some business ethics and communication 101 courses to the curriculum would be a good move.

Re: Service disruptions expected to be announced on some BC Ferries routes

I want to live in a city where everybody else compensates me for the roads I drive every day. Islanders pay the same tax rates as everyone else. We don't get the infrastructure projects you do -- so where exactly are our tax dollars going?

If the road to your house is only at 20 to 30% utilization, let's shut it down the other 70% of the time. It'll save on wear and tear and decrease maintenance costs.

Re: Service disruptions expected to be announced on some BC Ferries routes

I'm so sick of the "people choose to live where you rely on ferries" argument. Tell you what Fiona, let's put toll booths in on all of the roads leading to and from your house and start raising the rates charged at each to the point where it's costing you $100 each time you leave your house.

People don't buy new houses each year. I moved to the gulf islands 6 years ago when ferry fares were reasonable. In that time, they have more than doubled. So I should just sell my house, uproot my kids and move to the mainland?

People aren't riding the ferries because the cost too much to ride. No other reason. It's not because we don't like the decor or wish it felt more like a cruise ship. It's because it's unaffordable.

Re: A fond farewell

You sir are 100% class. How do you feel about being put on hold?

Re: Getting Front Row to Work on OS X Server

Thanks, that was a huge help!

Re: Updates!

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Doesn't seem to be working though. I can restore it using the 2.0.1 firmware, but being in Canada and using a 2G, that leaves me without a functioning phone. Trying to revert back to 2.0, or use custom firmware is giving me that error in iTunes (6).

I've tried using 2 different computers, different USB ports, different cables, setting up a new account, re-installing iTunes -- nothing seems to work. Looks like I'm just going to have to wait until the devteam comes to my rescue :-)

My wife if having a great time lauging at me though...

Re: Updates!

I'll try the new user account thing. I've actually tried two different computers and had the same result (iMac and MacBook) -- so I think it may not be a USB thing. DFU is correct -- I've got the right screen, and iTunes is telling me that it needs to be restored.

Re: Updates!

Sigh... that didn't work either.

If anyone comes up with a solution, I'll be much indebted. Right now, when I try to install a "custom" firmware, iTunes throws a The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).

Re: Updates!

A (partial) warning:

My computer F**ked up during the 2.0.1 update and so I ended up doing a "clean" restore. Now it's a pain in the arse to try to get it back. Installing "custom" firmware on a 2.0.1 phone yields an error (6) when trying to do it through iTunes. I'm trying to go back to stock 2.0 firmware, and then back to custom 2.0 firmware. Hopefully that works, otherwise I'll just have to wait for a PwnageTool update :-(

My fault, but just thought I'd mention that the downgrade path isn't that easy...

Re: Microdobe?

It's an interesting idea. There's a part of me, as a consumer, that's terrified by the idea. A Microsoft-Adobe merger would create such a powerhouse in so many areas of desktop software.

While Flash is a big player in Internet video, I think it's really become marginal in terms of any other function. Most folks have finally come to realize that producing an entire site in Flash is a silly, unnecessary thing.
