Could you please add me to the photog list? I'm @laminda, https://ello.co/laminda, and I post museum and science-y things, mostly. Cheers!

Re: MOAR BOOK HELP, it’s question time again!

Men have a hard time asking for directions. Especially if the author is a celebrity. Penny Marshall's "My Mother Was Nuts" does this REALLY well: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

But good animation, especially if it works WITH the text from the book, is exceptionally effective—much more so than video. "Going West"'s trailer is a gem: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

So is the trailer for "Gun Machine": https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And "Anya's Ghost" is also pretty terrific: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Though graphic novels DO have an unfair visual advantage when it comes to book trailers.

Re: how the hell am I going to deliver this TED talk? help.

There's a singular truth reflected in your music and in interactions with your listeners—artist and audience live in each of us. The artist can become the muse; the audience can make the art. Bring THAT to TED. You may be the one onstage, but grab the audience by the tits and wake the artist in them.

Re: internet-hate, part 2: the plot thickens, and deepens.

Just this: your blog posts and commenter army vaporize the fug of internet nastiness like the shvitz at the 10th Street Baths blasts the holy fuck out of a tequila hangover.

Re: on internet hatred: please inquire within.

The fact that you wondered, "What if I had talked to him?" about the boy who was bullying you...well, you've just become one of the reasons why I think there's hope for the human race after all.

Re: They Froze for Science — and Got the Eggs

Wonderful story, very evokative and beautifully written. But in the final photo of the polar party, Titus Oates—who walked out into a blizzard on the return from the pole, when it was clear he couldn't keep up with the team—is identified as "Oakes".

Re: The Pixies are coming! (At the WORST TIME EVER.)

Dunno if this will make you feel any better, but I saw the Pixies right before they broke up (with De La Soul as the opening band, go figure) and they were TERRIBLE. Seriously, it was the worst live performance I've ever seen. I think they all pretty much hated each other by then, so that might have been a contributing factor, but they also just might be one of those bands that doesn't deliver live. The Breeders, on the other hand, kicked ass.
