The phrase "more perfect" indicates that there is no end to the perfecting of our union. The 300 million of us would never be able to agree on what this perfect America would look like anyway. We, as a nation, are at our best only when we are striving for that more perfect union, so what would happen if we even got there? What I am saying is the inherent good or "perfection" of what we are is found in our actions not in our future end goals.

Re: http://barthel.tumblr.com/post/387398301

I like to think I seduced you with my wit, charm, and youthful beauty, not makeup, cheap beer, and video games. But shit, 9 year in, you are right it was the makeup, cheap beer and video games. If that is all it takes, we are in for a very happy marriage Mr. Barthel.

Re: http://barthel.tumblr.com/post/357429633

This is amazing and awesome and I love it so much!

Re: http://barthel.tumblr.com/post/357081979

I am way prettier than this, but look how cute we are!

Re: My Decade in Music

You are my teen dream.

Re: Every time you watch Jersey Shore, you are killing my soul a little bit.

Dudette - Right now my people have Joe Lieberman - and he is the same self-promotional fame whore as Flava Flav (minus the seminal hip hop albums). Both of these characters present themselves to the world as little more than racist/anti-semitic sterotypes, but at least Flava Flav is not the 60th vote in Reid's super majority.

Re: Just North of Something Important - Paranmaum - “Linda Linda” [via J. One of the worst things about the Bush admin and the 2008 was that everyone now thinks they understand politics and governance. Our party is getting uppity. Chill the fuck out guys. We will get healthcare. No matter what your opinions are on what healthcare reform look like, you are more than likely simply spouting a talking point. Unless you have an advanced degree in public health, I dont think you know how to fix healthcare. Healthcare reform might not look exactly the way you have been told you want it to look.

Personally I would love a single payer system for all, but that is not going to happen. But I am not going to start railing against healthcare reform because it is not going to look exactly the way I want it to look. There might not even be a public option. But what is my goal here? Is it to create a very large government entitlement program? Although I do love those, dont get me wrong, that is not the end goal of healthcare reform. The end goal, what I really care about, the only thing I care about, is that everyone has comprehensive healthcare. Nothing else matters.

It is incredible how far along healthcare is, but most people have no way of knowing this because the last time we got even half this way was in the early 90s when most of us were watching the 8 daily episodes of Saved by the Bell rather than the nighly news.

Re: Mike Barthel's Tumblr - This is where I currently am, the reading room of...

ooooh pretty

Re: Kooky activist types

You really are my beshert!

Re: Let's be clear on something

They did get two SCOTUS justices, but really they just gained like 1/2 a seat. Because they replaced Reinquest with Roberts, which is basically the same thing. So they really only got the O'Connor seat which is now filled with Alito. And the Reagan appointed OConnor was not exactly an aging hippie.

We did not gain a seat, but we did place a wise latina on the court, and that, I feel, is worth 1/2 a seat as well. So I say less than a year into the Obama admin we are even with the Bush admin in Scotus nominees.

Re: Let's be clear on something

I am marrying on smart cookie! But to be fair, he accomplished three things domestically

1) No child Left behind (2002)
2) tax cuts (2001, 2003)
3) Medicare part D (2003)

They are all failures in their own way. But more importantly all of these were pushed through at the very begining of his presidency. He blew all of his political capital on Iraq. Then Katrina was the last nail in the Bush Administration's coffin, at which point he lost all hope of reforming Social Security. So starting in 2005, all that piece of shit had left to do was wait out the second term of an utterly failed presidency.

Lets not take our party down this road. Please. The Bush administration was a failure, why should we be interested in even glancing at their playbook?

Re: Healthcare thought of the day...

Oh this is Rachel

Re: Healthcare thought of the day...

I love you deeply

Re: Mike Barthel's Tumblr - Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story
