I just did a check for updates via 'settings' > 'about chrome os' so I'm not sure why you are not getting it.
The official Google page on android supported devices says it should be in stable.

Just installed and I'm quite impressed. It seems to play everything including netfix and seems quite speedy compared to chrome.

I will definitely buy this. I will not replace my phone with Ubuntu until I know it replaces the functionality and has the reliability of what I have. A tablet is a different matter though.

If funding is available to get the line to Henbury then I say grab it with both hands. Once there is a line to Henbury it will be easier to argue for the completion of the loop at a later stage as a Phase 3. The danger is if we insist on arguing for more funding to complete the loop as part of phase 2 they might scrap phase 2 altogether. I've known plenty of projects in all walks of life that have never got off the ground because people insist on including everything up front rather than do as much as is practicable and affordable.
