First, the story about Designer's Consignment is not intended to be advertising for the business. The editor pitched the idea of a story on a local business, sometimes referred to as a "business profile", to UW journalism student Rebecca Livingston. The Kirkland Reporter and UW Newslab, of which Livingston is a member, maintain a unique relationship - similar to an internship.
In regards to the story written, unfortunately a few errors were made and a correction will be issued in our next printed edition. Apart from mischaracterizing the story as an "Ad", the above post is correct and the online story has been edited to correct these mistakes.
Thank you very much for your valuable comments which cited the errors before we had the ability to address them - and thank you for reading the Kirkland Reporter!

Re: Children open wide for ‘Give Kids a Smile Day’ - Kirkland Reporter

Dear nyscof,
Thanks for bringing the work that Dental Therapists do to our attention. Our interest in Give Kids a Smile Day is a local one, based here in Kirkland, Washington. When dentists, who are part of the country's health care apparatus, offer their expensive preventive treatments for free it draws our attention - as it did in this case. Obviously, we recognize that one day or even one month of free care is not an adequate solution for many children and families who cannot otherwise afford or access this type of care. That's why your comments are valuable and needed as we continue to follow this story. Please contact staff at the Kirkland Reporter if you know of any local efforts to promote the work of Dental Therapists, or know of any practicing professionals in our area - now that we're aware of them, their contact information would be all the more valuable.
Thanks.

Re: Superintendent: Redmond School District not allowed to discuss cheer coach dismissal - Redmond Reporter

*Sound of palm striking forehead*
If it pains you this much, you should request a correction from the Editor.
(BTW - Appreciate you citing directly this time. To accept this information wholesale with no verification is unethical and it appears that this is not from a lack of trying. Apparently, the reporter is making attempts here in several posts to rectify that - not dismissing it, as you say. There are ways to preserve anonymity -- while the Redmond Reporter does not publish anonymous sources, it could use the information given to find alternative sources that would be willing to go on the record. I have no doubt that they are attempting to do this -- perhaps this could have been explained by the reporter.
Logically speaking, attacking the messenger is the step taken after one side of the argument perceives the poor foundation they're standing on.
Also, if I may note, using "weasel-words" such as "seems" undermines your own argument. Cite boldly and directly to convince us out here in the ether-'tubes.
Kind Regards

Re: Redmond High School cheer coach dismissed; rumors swirl - Redmond Reporter

Stangparent,
I'd suggest, respectfully, on backing away from the veiled threats in your post .
To your point on confidential sources and a right to privacy, you are right to take a stand on the principle on the right to privacy. It seems, however, that you are misinterpreting "good journalism" in respect to anonymous sources. Using anonymous sources in "good journalism" is, first, a calculated risk taken by the journalist. Most "respected" news organizations take a dim view of using this information, as it often turns out to be, well, crap. Second, information obtained in this way should be treated with the highest suspicion until verified by at least two sources, if not more. So your criticism of "not covering both sides" is off-base. If all the reporter has is "no comment" and anonymous sources unwilling to reach some sort of arrangement with the reporter, contingent on verification, then it's totally unreliable and is essentially no better than gutter gossip.
If you wish to continue this avenue of debate, may I respectfully request that you go here before continuing?
