The massive decrease in cost of TV's (at the south extreme) does not at all balance out the massive increase in hospital services and college tuition (on the north extreme). It needs to be put in perspective.

Re: Work Life Balance

@fredwilson & AVC community: I'm headed to China next week and trying to figure out the best way to watch Mets baseball online. Bookstores need to focus on curation and added value like author readings, music stores need curation and limited editions and concerts [for example]. Not everyone can afford or wants to pay $16+ per ticket for a movie, so they pirate copies. Same day on-demand releases will help fight that [I think and hope].

Re: k.b.skobac.com: The Golden Era of Podcasting?

Nice -- I moved off Stitcher because certain podcasters have had bad experiences from the business side and no longer list their shows there.

The guy who produced Planet Money is also doing Startup Podcast (above)!

Re: The Personal Cloud

Not to mention all of the useful things that the latest pairing of iOS and OSX can do, with handoff etc.!

Re: Reblog: The Future Of Media

I love this post and it's vision, but in the last year Techcrunch, Mashable, and even GigaOm have changed over to partial RSS feeds. For sure, new features like video and direct messaging are great (though I haven't heard yet how often DM's are really used). And I'm equally impressed that Instagram "ads" have been well received, mainly because they've reinforced the artistic direction a sponsored post must take. But ultimately they also need to focus on what made their community, what drives most of their engagement, and what their core value proposition is-- a photography creation and sharing application. In that, progress is needed.

Re: Changing Clocks

Seems like Nest should build an awesome smart clock that dons tons of things we never thought a clock could do. As much as it may seem overzealous of them to pursue every category, Google tends to be positive and disruptive in so many of its efforts. Mobile got better with Android, web browsing got better with Chrome, productivity got better with Google Apps, etc., etc., .. and I don't want them to give up with their big ambitions. So if I had to pick what their reasonable territory is, vs what they shouldn't get greedy about, it's a hard choice to make.

Re: A Day Late And A Dollar Short

I still feel Blackberry could have killed it with the ultimate keyboard-based Android phone. Foursquare seems to signal that they're happy with more and more people searching, not checking in, but they need both implicit and explicit information to be a powerful resource. And historical data is only so valuable-- the business of restaurants, local companies, etc., changes too fast without new signals flowing in consistently all of the time.

Re: k.b.skobac.com: Our Vineviewer Vine Search Engine Gets Some Love

Thanks Sam!

Re: Evernote Hello 2.0 for iPhone is Here: Remember Everything About the People You Meet

Love the upgrades! Facebook has jumped in to me too spaces many times before, with Quora killers, etc, and so far it's proven that a single Facebook feature should never be pumped up to "XYZ killer / irrelevant" status. Foursquare's long slug from launch to now shows just how much work it takes to make a great recommendation service. As someone who's used Foursquare from Day 1, I can promise that I return now not even thinking about points or badges, rather because it has powerful search & discovery, powerful historical tools, etc. The amount of data + intelligence it's baking into it's "explore" feature, the way it's now summarizing the best content when you check in, the ability to complex search through my personal history, all that gives me critical reasons to open the app multiple times every day - on my phone, and on the web. And no one thinks, I imagine least of all Foursquare, that it will become the single social network for people - it's a community that gets richer all the time with 'liking', photos, and a connected app platform, but it's not a social graph in the way Facebook or Twitter is, and that's not a bad thing.

Re: ReadWrite Mix: Guy Kawasaki Talks Apple, Google & The Book Business - by Jon Mitchell

Will videos of your ReadWrite Mix talks be up anywhere?
