That actually made my night. Otherwise I think if we on the left and right are going to have any kind of civil discourse we are going to need to stop calling each other names and making ad hominem attacks. We need to be critical of the issues first and personalities last. I do listen to the opposition. I listen to NPR, NBC, the Huffington Post, Salon, etc. I care what liberal people think (and feel). I desperately want to understand. I am however worried that we have come to the point in this country that if we were a married couple we would have been divorced long ago. You and many on the left like socialism, I and many on the right abhor it. As a history teacher I strongly disagree that FDR's, LBJ's, and Hitler's brands of socialism have been anything but a disaster. Social Security may prove to be an insolvent ponzi scheme. The great society programs transferred trillions in wealth but created no great society. Hitler's socialist and nationalist programs nearly bankrupted the country of their gold and foreign currency reserves and furthered necessitated an expansionist war on Germany's part. But hey, maybe socialism works in Norway. Where ever you are socialism still has the same problem that Margaret Thatcher once stated was that "eventually you run out of other people's money". If the left wants to discourage smoking they levy taxes on it. Maybe if they saw the same thing by taxing people that they discourage work we'd get somewhere in this country. I'm still open to suggestions. Are you open to reading conservative intellectual material or is that an oxymoron? Thanks. Have a great day.

Re: http://www.thefrustratedteacher.com/2009/09/obamas-foes-are-filled-with-unmitigated.html

Hi, I am also a teacher. While I agree with you that people shouldn't be dredging up the swastika to apply to almost every leader with whom they disagree including Obama, there is still freedom of speech and expression in this country. I find it troubling that people on the left want to make speech a crime.
Secondly I am a level headed conservative, and a history and English teacher. Do remember that the NAZI stands for the National Socialist Workers Party. Many of the domestic programs the Nazis had to win support of the bankrupt and unemployed nation included National Healthcare, National Education, National Work Projects, National Vacation Projects, National Social Security, A National & Socialist union,National Deficit Spending, National Art programs to support the party in power, National Police forces, the Suspension of freedom of press, and basically the intrusion of the German national government over those of the state and local communities. They destroyed the Weimar constitution. Many of the things Obama and the democrats want are similar and extra-constitutional and totally in violation of the 10th amendment.
We all need to read the constition and scrutinize all of our leaders instead of calling names. I think that we all can agree to that. Good luck and God Bless.
