We’re always taught to trust the experts, who are almost always scientists, as if they have all the answers. Those who worship at the altar of science forget that their truths just accept another set of assumptions, making their foundation far from trustworthy. What science should teach is just how much there is that we don’t know. Evidence suggests possible answers but it doesn’t solve problems as neatly as the “experts” will tell you.

Re: Sub-literate congressman attempts to mock bestselling journalist, fails miserably.

Give me a break, please. I have no doubt that Patrick's book is meticulously researched, nor do i doubt for a second that Comer is a fool. But implying that corporate greed is not part of the Democrats' playbook is just short-sighted. So, you've shown that Comer is an idiot - but what of his claims? Is Keefe gulty of making donations to Democrats?

Re: So You Want To Read Grimdark: Here’s Where To Start

I've walked past The Grim Company in my local bookstore about a hundred times, and pick it up every time, only to put it back before I leave, and then regret it once I get home. NEWS FLASH: There is no answer. At least, not any good one. This team stinks, and will continue to stink, because there's just not that much talent on the team. That's what you get for spending no money on players and for having a trash manager. I don't like it any more than you do, Mets fans, but this is the hand we've been dealt. Let's give him a chance to adjust after watching some tape and figuring out how to better prepare. I would think a lot of this falls on D'Antoni as well. Not having practice the day before was a mistake, when it clearly could have been used to better prepare this team, including Jeremy Lin, for what was going to be thrown at them. They looked flat, ill-prepared, and out of sync all night.

Re: Game On

Fine. If we helped to build the movement around Nader instead of Obama, maybe someone would stand up any pay attention to him. He's not taking votes from anyone, and anyone that supports real democracy, in my view, should be embarrassed to say so. If we had a one-candidate election, and some other rogue stuck their head in, would we say he or she was taking votes from the other? A bi-partisan system ruled by two corporate parties is democratic in name only. It becomes more democratic when someone like Ralph is put on the ballot and given the opportunity to debate the mainstream candidates and make his voice and the voices of the thousands that support him heard. So he is not taking votes from anyone - he is gaining his own votes, as he is by all means permitted to do. No, Nader is not a communist or socialist but he would do more to represent working class people than any Democrat ever will - and in honestly he already has, by building a career that has fought corporate interests and stood up for workers for decades.

You can be sick of him if you want, Norman - that's your prerogative - but as someone who tired of corporate politics long ago, my conscience and sense of morality won't allow me to vote for a system that keeps itself alive - and holds the working class down - by barring people like Ralph Nader. He is marginalized because he is feared, which is all the more reason we should embrace him rather than push him away.

~Harold Niver
