I have decided to make mixes ahead of time and store them in air tight jars. Just add eggs and water and you are sent. A treat in no time. I live in a small town so it is easy to walk to most of the areas that I would ever need to go. Like a friends house. This was fun and very eye opening. Thanks for doing it. I have saved the challenges to see if my friends could do them.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 6 (MONDAY)

This is an easy challenge for us. We have been cooking from scratch for a while now to help with health issues. My mom says that I put to much work into feeding my family. Everything comes in a box now. My kids have had more energy and just love to have fresh things from home. I don't buy any store bought junk food anymore. They like the homemade goodies. Fruit smoothies are a great way to start off the day. I never thought of sneaking in some spinach. That is a great idea. Thanks.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 5 (SUNDAY)

I am glad that I had my computer stuff backed up. You just don't realize how much you rely on the basics until they are not there. We didn't realize how much water we really used until we had this happen and had to plan it out. This has opened our eyes to how much we really are not prepared. We have been taking notes and learning from what others have said they did to handle the challenge. The ideas have been great and hopefully we will be much better prepared when these things really do happen to use. Thanks so much for the practice run. This was such a great idea.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 5 (SUNDAY)

I did not read this until went got home from church. So we started then by fining our home a damaged. We have all of our camping gear stored in a small shed away from the house. It did just fine. Our BBQ did not survive since it was in the garage under the house. We made some small stoves out of #10 cans. For our heat source for cooking we used our tuna cans that we had filled with cardboard and wax. They work great for small meals. I have had problems with computers before so I have put all my information on backup hard drive that I keep in a safe box. I also make copies on disk of family pictures and documents. It is a good thing that it is still warm. But we do have slepping gear to keep warm if needed. My daughter is liking the fact that we do camping and no showers. I hope that we have water for Monday so we can clean up some of the mess that we have been going through because of all the things that have been happening. We have decide to use our generator to keep the food in the freezer food from going bad. It looks like hot dogs and beans for dinner.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 4 (SATURDAY)

There was a free food festival down by the water front in Whitewater. They had free music and activities to watch. With food brought from home to have a picnic and porta potties for us to use the day went better than expected. Having sanitary cleaner with us was a big help. It was a nice day for the family. We spent the morning watching our son race in a cross country race for school and the rest was together as a family. Days like this help to bring a family together. I like to have a challenge like this. We did not do the power part because we were not home. The las time we had a major power outage is was over Christmas. We opened our presents by flashlight. I took pictures in hopes something would show up. The kids spent the whole day doing things together. We went to a friends house for dinner since she had it cooked before the power went out. It was our best Christmas ever. This challenge today brought back those memories. It is nice to just spend time together without the distractions of TV or video games. Thanks for this challenge.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 4 (SATURDAY)

This will be a hard day for my kids. Our two older boys live in Colorado and the internet is our connection. It is cheaper than a phone and we can see each other with web cam. Not watching TV will be easy. We do a lot of reading. We have already done a family activity for the day. Our son is in cross country for school so we went to watch him run today. Since it is a nice day today we planned on spending most of it outside in the garden. Does it count if we go to the library to pick up more books and use the bathroom while we are there? I hope that is not cheating. Our water supply is not where I would like it to be right now since we have already had a crisis and had to use some of it. Have not had the chance to replenish it yet.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 3 (FRIDAY)

This challenge went smoothly. We had vegetable lasagna, rolls, corn, and apple pie for dessert. The appetizer was fresh vegetables with salad dressing to dip into. We had it outside on our deck because our floor in being torn up and replaced. It was a nice day so everyone enjoyed it. I was better prepared for this one because I did canning last week and used the items for the dinner. Can't wait for the next challenge.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 3 (FRIDAY)

Thanks for the imput. I think we will just make it our conversation starter. "Oh, I didn't notice the floor is missing!" It could be fun.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 3 (FRIDAY)

This is funny, we do have some surprise guest coming over tonight. I think the dinner part will be easy. The problem is that we are in the middle of painting and putting in a wood floor in the living room and dinning room. Any ideas on how to make it look nice in a pinch?

Re: Another hint — Food Storage Recipes!

That is a great idea about laminating your recipe cards. I have thought of putting our family favorite food storage recipes in a small photo album that has pockets. They could fit into a backpack that is used for an emergency kit. Laminating them would be an extra benefit.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 2 (THURSDAY)

We had just went out last week and picked up everything we would need just in case this would happen. There have all ready been some cases at the schools in our area. The kids think we did a good job for this challenge. It made them feel better about not doing so well yesterday. This is really brining our family together. My kids are thinking about what could happen next. They are looking forward to what may happen and if they will be able to handle it.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: DAY 1 (WEDNESDAY)

It is amazing on how much you really are not prepared when something does come up. We have the basics if we needed to stay here in our home. The having to leave your home is the hard part. We are new to this area and have not learned enough about where to go yet. It is a good eye opener to what needs to be done. The kids are thinking about this a little more serious now that they didn't do so well on the first day.
