Maybe it's because I just watched "For the Bible Tells Me So" but this topic has been on my mind a lot recently.

I would go a step further though. The kernel of the song appears to be that you can preach against homosexuality or you can worry about the 50,000 people dying today. The conclusion appears to be that it's ok if you internally reject homosexuals, but as long as your outward focus is more on the suffering of the rest of the world, you have your priorities right. It's basically another, more nuanced, version of "hate the sin, love the sinner." Except appears to be "hate the sin, love the sinner, now let's talk about something more important."

I realize I shouldn't get too greedy about a Christian song advancing the cause of LGBTs, so I suppose this is a good start.

Re: Post-Elephant

"Post-modernism does not lead people to real answers or to absolute truth it simply satiates people’s doubts by allowing them to believe whatever they want. Post-modernism rejects dichotomist thinking, that is, distinctions like good/evil, right/wrong, true/false, or believer/un-believer. According to post-modernism, there are no “true” or “false” statements, just statements; there are no “believers” or “unbelievers” because there is nothing to believe in (except self.)"

I wouldn't say that this movement supports or is supported by post-modernism, per se. However, a lot of us have more or less previously rejected much dichotomous precepts. It's why I, personally, don't feel comfortable in a "normal" church. And I probably never will, because I reject many of the premises that the evangelical movement (pre-modern?) perpetuates. Does that make me a non-believer in the black-and-white world of evangelicalism? Maybe.

I hate to speak for everyone, but I'm personally drawn to events such as these because I've already begun to doubt or flat out rejected the precepts of the evangelical church. Maybe in the eyes of the evangelical church that makes me, and the throng of others who think and believe similarly, pluralists/unitarians/agnostics, but the fact is, I get a very different meaning out of my faith than those who attend more traditional churches. And if it weren't for events and meta-movements like Void, I wouldn't attend any spiritual events at all.

And the minute that any institution tells me that everything is absolute / this is good, this is evil / persons A, B, and C, will go to heaven while persons X, Y, and Z will go to hell, that's the moment I leave said institution.
